“The first commandment prohibits people from worshiping other gods. The first amendment allows people to worship any god they want. Those two are in direct contradiction.”
False
The first amendment doesn’t prohibit anyone from worshipping “other gods” or any god. It prohibits the establishment of an official State religion (like the Church of England). You can choose to worship or you can choose to not worship or be completely agnostic or atheist. Those are the facts.
“There was never a time when everybody in the country worshiped the God of the Bible. And back when Christianity was more prevalent, that was when we also had slavery and segregation.”
I have never said nor implied that everybody in the country worshipped my God. What I said was that the founders (not every single one of them) took the lessons of the Bible and the Ten Commandments into consideration when they drafted the Declaration of Independence and again when they drafted the Constitution. It was important to them.
“This country isn't disintegrating, and the problems we have aren't because some people aren't worshiping the God of the Bible anymore. In many ways, our country is better than it was 100 years ago.”
Yes, it is most certainly disintegrating… right before our eyes. If you can’t acknowledge that simple fact, then you are being totally dishonest with me, yourself, and everyone else. The fact still remains that in the last 60 years, we, as a nation, are in decline rather than in ascendancy. In many ways we are better than we were 100 years and in many more ways we are worse off.
