From table in article you cited. Looks like police budget actually went down after calls in 2020 to cut police budget. Maybe not $120M, but it went down.

No.

The budgets went up.

They went down after proclaiming to cut police budget in upcoming budget years. The statement was made in 2020 after the 2020 budget had already been made. It would have gone down MORE if not for overtime. SF is short 600+ officers.

It still lost about 35 million in budget between 2020 and now, but Breed is asking for 28 million in assistance. It seems to me, San Francisco does have the budget to fix this problem.

Defund the Police was not a terrible idea, for those who know it wasn’t just a smear campaign against overpaid law enforcement, but it still sent the wrong message.
