The very essence of Conservatism is a restriction, even revocation, of the expansion of rights to those who were formally ecluded from it. That's quite lterally it's origin, purpose, and reason for being a movement.

Again, anti same-sex marriage bills can't be passed. Just because some anti-gay lawmaker wants to pass such laws doesn't mean they can actually succeed in such a process. The overwhelming majority of society is for protecting gay rights and the law protects gay rights.

That's what they said about Roe v Wade for half century, even the very "Roe v Wade is the law of the land" judges who overturned it.
