I am for laws that are designed to protect children from real harm. I just object to creating a "problem," that singles out people who are doing no harm. It wasn't that long ago that Gay men were the targets of the extreme-righter's "anti-grooming," campaign. That must not have tested well with "focus groups." Drag Queens replaced them. Grooming in the sense that you folks on the right wing like to fantasize about, would be very difficult for a Drag Queen reading a book to a group of children. The "Groomer," is almost always a person known to and trusted by the person targeted for grooming. If they are not already a member of the target's nuclear family, they are a trusted person. This is why many Groomers are Clergy, teachers, doctors and health care providers.

The process of "Grooming," is intimate and multi-faceted. It includes gaining the trust of the target and their support system, including parents and others in protective roles. They are charming and manipulative to all. In that way they gain the trust of all. They develop a special affinity with the target, liking what they like and hating what they hate. They may even take a role in helping the target with life's difficulties. Once they feel they are totally trusted, the coercion and abuse begin.

That is how I understand it, is how the process works, most of the time.

Just because they are not “my kids” being taken to drag shows, does not mean those children don’t deserve protection from the parents that would take them there.
