I can tell I have hit a nerve when these professional Trump apologists respond in less than an hour and try to shift the blame.
2 ups, 1y
Ummm. It’s time to retire Trump and make Biden responsible for the past 2 years.
3 ups, 1y
You mean shift the blame that you just shifted?

Wow Larry, that's pretty weak, even coming from the left.

Speaking for myself (because unlike libtards, that's what I do) I do not follow Larry. I just check new memes for crazy shit, and there it is.

You post the same thing from a script over and over - THREE times in under 5 minutes!

"Fat_Elvis <1h

Prove it, modda. Not just what the media tells you to think. Think for yourself, and prove it."

And that was to a pic. An UNcaptioned pic!

"You post the same thing from a script over and over - THREE times in under 5 minutes!"

Wow, that's a pretty impressive, made up statistic you have there, modda.

You have proved nothing.

Yes I used the same image more than once, but I write the text that goes along with it every time. So while the text may be similar, it's not copied and pasted as you claim.

Why do I do that? Because when I see libtards do it, I find it to be weak and pathetic.

If you could have proven it, you would have done so already.

Come on Man! (well, modda...) this is weak shit, even for you.

Why do you do it though?

The idea was not to have another Lac Megantic from july 2013.

Sure Larry... Biden shut down the pipeline because he was told to do so by the railroad industry...

OOPS
2 ups, 1y,

Straw man, the pipeline was neither shut down nor did the impact of oil cause the derailment.

No fewer than three warnings that an axle was overheating. Who blew it off and why?

yup... and Larry lied again...

1 of the 2 fellas operating that train, as per Trump's rollback of Obama's 2018 regs.

You’re quick to label it a lie but failure to address it without context or relevance makes the accusation meaningless.

I get that a lot from people who want to ignore the truth and parrot the misleadia...
1 up, 1y
Just because people label what you believe to be meaningless accusations doesn’t make yours more meaningful.

It does make you a hypocrite.

The freaking train folks failed to stop & fix the wheel they were told about. There’s context. They are accused of a resulting disaster.
1 up, 1y,
1 reply
No. Here is the real context.

The wheel was in motion and passed three detectors. While these checks observed it hotter than average it was not behind the safety protocol until the third detector. By then the train was already derailing.

https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/overheating-wheel-detected-too-stop-164120129.html

Further, the comment by AV claims Larry is lying.

He isn’t.

Trump’s roll back on safety rules has relevance in the detection of any of the faulty equipment. The wheel might’ve been stopped on the first or second inspection and might’ve prevented the derailment.
1 up, 1y,
1 reply
But they still Measured it and knew it was a problem. When you wait for bureaucrats to tell you that you have a problem you shouldn’t even be in business.
2 ups, 1y,
1 reply
The reason we have safety protocols in place is to determine when to act without liability. The people on the train only knew the wheel was hotter than normal but was still within the regulated safety parameters.

While you would argue they should’ve acted on the second detector without liability, assuming the train operators even it knew that the heat was above normal, and not an average based on their personal experience, they’re still not liable if they operate within protocol.

Naturally, now, that protocol will be scaled back to measure this disaster… it had been done before in 2013 when a similar issue came up…

https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2013/12/30/258444632/train-derailment-in-north-dakota-causes-explosion-fire

Which lead to numerous safety protocols that were then scaled back under Trump.

While, yes, you can blame the operators for the derailment for not knowing exactly when to stop the train, they may have faced consequences for prematurely stopping the train for what could’ve been a potential disaster. Those ramifications include lay offs if not fines or penalties by the company they worked for had they done so.

Bureaucracy isn’t simply some snake you can cut with a garden hose. It’s a lot more vindictive and nefarious like a hydra erupting from the ground. You either ride it and guide it, or surrender yourself to it’s venomous fangs.

And you best hope that the next Republican President won’t get deregulation happy on this issue or else East Palestine will become a statistic.

Obviously Biden’s Buttigig should have reviewed this but the railroad need not be told it’s hot. They knew and let it slide as a bureaucratic excuse.
2 ups, 1y,
1 reply
Of course they let it slide. America comes first! That means protecting the cost to American industries by scaling back expensive regulations.
0 ups, 1y
"That means protecting the cost to American industries by scaling back expensive regulations."

Or, in the case of mayor Pete and the Brandon administration, waiting until disaster strikes and them blaming Trump for their failure to require the very safeguards that they're just now (how convenient) attempting to blame Trump for removing.

Biden has two years to something about it. He has done zilch.
0 ups, 1y,

That is true. But Biden wouldn’t have had to do anything about it had Trump not rolled back the regulations in the first place. I’m sure he didn’t want to put work into something that could easily be undone by a future Republican.

Especially with the states rights stance of the current Supreme Court, it would’ve been a waste of time to do it.

Even with the notoriety surrounding the East Palestine crash, the pending regulations may yet still be subject to being rolled back.

"I'm sure he didn’t want to put work into something that could easily be undone by a future Republican."

That is about as sad of a comment I think I've ever seen when it comes to a safety policy.

'Especially with the states rights stance of the current Supreme Court, it would’ve been a waste of time to do it."

Glad to see the left is finally waiving the white flag and recognizing that states have rights that the federal govt does not.

You presume too much, as always.
0 ups, 1y,
1 reply
The regulation was having pneumatic brakes on trains carrying hazardous cargo.

1. That regulation had NOTHING to do with the CAUSE of the crash.

2. Hazardous cargo is defined as oil, gas, highly flammable, etc., not toxic chemicals.

3. Pneumatic brakes would need to be on EVERY rail car. The time and cost to retrofit every rail car by the date mandated (2023) made it impractical.
1 up, 1y,
1 reply
Yes, I unfortunately must concede to some of your points. I had thought the issue was that the proposal for the pneumatic breaks included classifications of hazardous materials. And lead to Norfolk Southern mislabel the hazardous materials. However, that appears to not be true.

It still concerns me that despite the derailments in 2013 that lead to such proposals were stopped due to cost. Any regulation standards put in place to prevent this derailment May yet suffer a similar fate.

How can one not consider this complete apathy despite the large political opportunity?

And I am also now concerned this town may never fully recover.
0 ups, 1y
The problem with replacing pneumatic brakes with hydraulic brakes is EVERY rail car on a train needs to be retrofitted. Until then, trying to string together a train with retrofitted cars would be logistical nightmare.

Late reply, because... well, I have a life outside of imgflip.

What I posted proved you're wrong. The image is the same, the text is not. I was accused of copying and pasting what I wrote.

This isn't difficult gumby. Well, it shouldn't be. It need not be... Yet somehow you're having difficulty with it. Unbelievable...

No it didn’t prove me wrong. It proved me right. Just the same old boring meme.
