Potential problem for Trump: He's no longer crazy *enough* for the true believers. | SOME QANONERS ARE ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS THAT TRUMP ANNOUNCED HE'S RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT IN 2024. NO, REALLY. AND HERE ARE SOME OF THEIR THEORIES:; 1. That Trump, despite no longer being President, should have declared a "military action" instead; 2. That the announcement was an admission that the 2020 election was not, in fact, stolen; 3. That the announcement was an admission that the 2024 election will, in fact, be fair; 4. That it is pointless, because "there won't be any voters left" in 2024; 5. That, despite standing behind a lectern with the word "2024" printed on it, Trump was not really announcing a 2024 campaign, because "nowhere in his speech did he say 2024" | image tagged in donald trump 2024 presidential run announcement, qanon goes to congress, trump, trump supporters, qanon, conspiracy theories | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

You wonder how the hell people wind up believing that crap.

Then you realize that sites like https://beforeitsnews.com/ exist. This is what it looks like, and it goes on like this forever.

The online equivalents of a hoarder's attic, or a paranoid-schizophrenic's mad ravings.

This crap is rotting our country's brains from the inside out. It shouldn't be a thing. The First Amendment says we can't stop people from saying (or believing) the wildest things on earth, but mainstream ISPs ought to drop such sites and let them fall into the deep dark subterranean reaches of the internet where casual users will never find it. That would at least limit the damage.

Trump supporters say they want to bring back the 1950s. Usually, it's nostalgia for the '50s for all the wrong reasons: segregation, entrenched gender roles, bigotry of all kinds, anti-communist panic, no tolerance of homosexuality.

But there *were* some great things about that decade, compared to our current times:

(1) Trustworthy news sources. There were only like 3 stations on the channel to choose from - they were all high-quality, and there were no wackadoo online distortion fields from which to source "alternative facts."

And,

(2) A citizenry with a general trust of science, medicine, and progress, with a kind of optimism for the future.

I don't know how anyone can look at that for longer than 5 seconds. It's pure visual cancer.

And yet, if those counters are to believed, hundreds of people are viewing any given "story" at any given time.

Visual cancer... kind of like the internet equivalent of smoking.

#5 is 100% on brand for them.

They're not wrong about points #2 and #3.
