Why not both? | image tagged in why not both | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Yes, why not both. Fools on the Right acting like a democracy and a republic are opposites.

They can't explain what a republic is, but their masters told them we are and why think and ruin a perfectly good fantasy?

Acting by design.
Part of the Ruskie script and its intended dismantling of our society from the inside.

One of the fake St Petersburg channels YouTube removed a couple of years has a video listing countries that will no longer be in 20yrs. It predicted the cleaving off of Texas and Alaska by then.

I didn't major in civics, but pure democracy does not currently exist in practice. What we have is representative democracy, which is double-speak for republic. Since they're functionally congruent, the converse of the top panel would be just as accurate.

We are a democratic Republic. The right to elect our representatives in that government is a fundamental right secured in our constitution.

The point I was making is conservatives don't want everyone voting because theirs is a minority. Only way they win is to repress others from exercising that right.

Fair point about the intent of the meme. I do apologize for getting bogged down in semantics. The term "democratic republic" always hit my ear with the same redundancy as "deep fat fry". That said, overlap between representative democracy and constitutional republic is so great that the exact title is largely irrelevant. It does explain how 10 different people will likely give 5 different answers when asked "what form of government does the United States operate under?" And chances are good, they'll all be right.

Article 4 is not about voting rights. It's about one state attacking another state. As to the Federalist papers, they are not in the Constitution that our laws derive from. But they are important, just again have nothing to do with voting. The Amendments I posted do.

True, but the meme was also making a statement about whether we are a democracy or a republic. We are a consitutional republic as stated in Article 4 Section 4. The Federalist Papers explain why we do not want a pure democracy.

So only republicans get to run the government? Funny that is nowhere to be found anywhere, but from republicans. The constitution protects our rights to vote. You can call our country anything you want, but we the people get a say in who runs the country. Not just whiny white people. (this from a land owning male, you know the only ones originally allowed to vote)

Where did you get that "only Republicans" can run the government from what I wrote? I never mentioned any political party. There were no political parties when the constitution was written.
2 ups, 2y
Why do you think only republicans are bringing up that we are not a democracy, but a republic? It ain't because they want liberals voting. For the record, we are a democratic Republic. Again, civics.

Hence the meme about constitutional amendments that address right to vote. You have offered nothing to refute that. Do try and keep up.

4 4 of 10th... on it.. lets learn together

James Madison, Federalist, no. 43, 291--95

23 Jan. 1788
In a confederacy founded on republican principles, and composed of republican members, the superintending government ought clearly to possess authority to defend the system against aristocratic or monarchical innovations.

Also worth noting, Hamilton, who wrote a majority of those papers, opposed the sort of free ownership of rifles as we have now.

He did have his own fire arms though, but that probably from his time in the military as Washington’s aide. I mean he was killed in a technically illegal/legal duel with Aaron Burr after all.
