I bet Japan & South Korea are even safer than Iraq!

Wanna know what they do with guns?

You mean Japan and South Korea with a 99.99% Japanese and South Korean population? This is the largest melting pot in the world. Add to that the most free country in the world and of course you’ll have some issues. With such great freedoms come some problems, of course.

They are also don't have "Diversity as their strength" and in South Korea they eat dogs and in Japan they did until recently. Iowa is armed to the teeth compared to Chicago everyone over the age of 9 has at least one gun but guess what they have a homicide rate 260 % lower. It's a people problem and a impulse control problem not a gun problem. A gun sitting on the table will not go off without a person to pull the trigger. A person can go off and choke you to death.

Gifford's Law Center, gun control advocate, says California has the toughest gun laws.

Illinois waiting period - 72 hrs
Vs.
California - 10 days
D.C. - 10 days

Ah.. well initially you made it seem like the problem in Chicago was the "strictest gun laws".

If the problem is actually the people who live there, I don't think having less strict gun laws will help.

To stick with what we've been talking about.... waiting periods.... That seems like an incredibly small theoretical sliver of any potential benefit for criminals.

I mean how many people do you think actually get robbed or have murder attempts on their lives.... while also happening to still be on a 10 day waiting list to buy a gun..... which they also intend to carry around with them....and I guess it would also theoretically have to be their first gun that they intend to carry around
.. (Otherwise they would already have one)..

So ya idk. The possibility of it helping criminals seems much less probable than the flipside........ Preventing a drunk, hot head, or would-be criminal from being able to immediately go out and buy a gun and shoot someone before they sober up... Or calm down... Or change their mind in general.

Idk.... that seems more likely to me but maybe I'm wrong.

Depends on the criminal. Someone with multiple gun charges might not want another gun charge on their record. Or a small time crook. Idk. The "criminals will be criminals" argument seems kinda like why have any laws?

Anyway in the waiting list example, it seems to me the pros outweigh the cons.

The only possible victim who might pose less opposition to a criminal due to that law would be a first time gun owner on a waiting list.... And considering they're a first time gun owner, they might be a horrible shot anyway (even if they had a gun to defend themselves.)

Meanwhile there are many possible shooters who could be prevented from killing someone due to the same law.

Idk how they could actually calculate how many people were prevented from getting shot due to wait lists vs how many people got shot while on a wait list for their first gun.... but comparing those would probably be the best way to sort this out if the goal is saving lives.
