EVs range from about $21k and up. EVs are an option for MANY people. (https://insideevs.com/news/534027/electric-car-prices-us-20210918/)
The more people that buy them, the less oil we need, the less dependent we are on foreign oil. Electric is a just another fuel. But it comes from MANY places: coal, natural gas, wind, solar, hydro, nuclear etc.... gasoline and diesel are also fuels but come from ONE place: oil.
It's unrealistic to think it's better for everyone to diversify the fuels by which we run our transport methods, to reduce our dependency on oil? But if you choose not to drive an EV, that's fine. But the level of hate for them is laughable. We have been subsidizing the oil and fossil fuel industry for 100 years. Billions of tax dollars a year, $20B by conservative estimates. No one seems mad about that.
