The idea behind income taxation is that your salary isn't yours. It is the government's property, and the government decides, in its sole discretion, how much you are allowed to keep, like a child on an allowance, and how much the government needs to fund its pet peeves, invade countries in Southeast and Central Asia, barrel pork from one part of the country to another, and generally screw up that which the private sector could have done much more efficiently and with less mistakes. Plus, of course, issue propaganda to make you believe it is all for the greater good.
