The is one problem. Situation 1 is always first reported as a right wing nut but when it is found out that he left a manifesto behind, or that he espoused communism or he was a Bernie supporter, the media goes silent about the entire story.

I have a confederate battle flag. Things are not always how the leftists portray them. I am not a racist. I do not want the South to rise again. And I am a very strong supporter of the U.S. Constitution and our founding fathers.

I bought the flag because I was born in the South. But more specifically I bought it because about 6 or 7 years ago the left went on another tirade and I thought they were going to somehow outlaw the Confederate battle flag. I will not have the left continue to take my freedoms away. I most likely would have never bought the flag if they left hadn't gone on a tirade.

However, I don't "brandish" the flag. Even though to me it is about my ancestors and about where I was born, and to Southerners that is what it has become to mean since the Civil War ended. The left has turned it into a flag that only symbolizes racism and that is the only way they can ever see that flag. And that is why I won't ever fly the flag in my front yard.

I have it hanging on the wall in my home office next to my Scottish flag. My ancestry is mostly Scottish and the St Andrews cross flag is what the Confederate battle flag was based on. The Confederate battle flag was only used by two regiments. They were looking for a flag that would not be mistaken for the US flag to try to stop friendly fire. I have no idea how it came to represent the South as a whole because the flag of the Confederacy is not at all like the battle flag.

So why use the Tennessee (is it?) battle flag which is only 2nd to the Nazi Swastika in terms of right wing conservative racist symbols of choice instead of the actual Confederate flag that not even most Southerners seem to know what it looks like when that represents 'only' treason? Well, and racism too, only not as well know as the battle flag?

the flag was never used until 1 month before the civil war started, and about a year after South Carolina seceded from the Union. before that, the southern states were part of the union. not many examples of reunited countries exist, but if yugoslavia was rebuilt, it'd make much more sense having the flag of serbia around since serbia's isolated identity has existed ever since breaking away from the habsburgs and the ottoman empire. it'd even probably go without the stigma of being associated with slobodan milosovic since serbian officials initially sought to unite southern slavic nations instead of being isolated, although the serbian flag would be much less safe to carry around compared to the slovenian flag in this hypothetical since that stigma could still exist.

I get that. I have heard them make that statement. However, the flag has changed it's meaning since the war. Actually there are 3 versions of what that flag means right now.

One is what the left thinks of it.

The other is a sign of rebellion, not against a nation but against societal norms. Although you don't see it used nearly as frequently because of what the left has done to the flag's meaning, you used to see them Confederate Battle Flag stickers on motorcycles and trucks.

And lastly it is showing pride in where you were born, live and your family. It does not matter what your skin color is. There are plenty of blacks in the South who fly the Confederate Battle flag.

There may be a very very small number of people, probably living in the South who still want secede from the Union and the fly the flag in open rebellion to the United States of America. They are free to do so but in that respect I can see where people would look at them as traitors. I am NOT one of those. I just want everyone to be free and so did our founding fathers.

Um.... it's not 1865. All Confederate soldiers have long since died. And they were not allowed to run for political office under the 14th Amendment. I don't know of anyone who supports secession who is in politics right now. But then there are a lot of Representatives and Senators I know nothing about.

I cannot tell you what to do. If you are going to judge me, I can only hope it is not as a racist but rather as someone who is proud of where they are from. The dichotomy with me is I am proud of where I was born and I love my family but I live in Utah because I cannot stand humidity. So I could never live in the South again. I like visiting family and I think parts of the South are really pretty but I also think parts of the North are really pretty also.
