What ever happened to beans and rice?

Both take a fair amount of energy (personal and electric/gas) and time to prepare. If a person is hardly home because they work a lot trying to make ends meet they might not have time. And if they've let some utilities go (due to budget constraints), they may not have the means (or equipment) to prepare them, especially the beans.

Instapot does rice in 12 minutes and pinto beans in 20 minutes. Either one can be set with a delay time of up to eleven hours.
Pretty simple

You're assuming they can afford an instant pot. Those are kinda pricey (getting cheaper though). And not all models have delay timers (mine doesn't). Also, even them having electricity is an assumption that may not be true.
However, I don't buy the door dash story because if one "can only afford cereal" why would they be able to pay the doordash fee.
I'm very lazy and I stopped using delivery apps awhile ago because the fees were ridiculous, easily costing as much as the food itself.

As an aside, the instant pot does make my life so much easier, even without a delay timer.

I'm assuming that they have the brains to be able to feed themselves, which might be a reach

24 boxes at 5.70 a box.....

Thats $136.80, not incliding delivery charges. DAILY.

THEY CAN AFFORD AN INSTAPOT!

As I said, I don't buy it.
I was just pointing out that there are situations where cereal, which requires no preparation or specialized/refrigerated storage, might make more sense than rice and beans. (Without delivery charges, of course)
Tangent-5.70 a box? Where the eff are you buying your cereal. Unless it's a "club size" box, wtf? Also bagged cereal is usually cheaper.

Bagged cereal isnt KELLOGS, per the OPS whole point. Publix, Kellog cereal is about 5.70 a box, not on sale.

Pinto beans are a buck a pound, you don't need to pre soak them and they reheat well. Cook a pound on the weekend and you're eating all week.
1 up, 3y
Fully agree....at least with beans she will still be able to pass a movement. All that cereal, dry, good luck!!!! Lol

I call BS. If you can "barely afford food" you can't afford the delivery fees on doordash, which are likely to double the cost.
