Rome never went away. Look at America, lot of Rome stuff was brought over and incorporated into USA like the way government is ran and how military can impose control/martial law during extreme events. Also how the banking is, I believe. There are a few other random ones.

How about how politicians present the peons with bread and circuses when times are tough just to get the peons' minds off of their troubles? (Not an official policy here, to be sure, but both parties know how to run this play.)
