Colorado is too awesome for it to be blue. It needs to be red. But than any state would be much better if it was red. California would be a great place to live again if it was red.

In 1988 when the movie was released, gas prices averaged $.90 per gallon. It's possible that in some places gas was only $.74, but I doubt it was in LA where the movie takes place.

Filming took place November 87 - March 88. From the LA Almanac (http://www.laalmanac.com/energy/en12.php), the lowest price during that period was 84 cents, not far off of the 74 cents depicted. As you said, it's possible. These are monthly averages, too, btw, so who knows how it fluctuated week to week or day to day.

I'm old enough to remember gas at 50 cent per gallon. I used to fill up my tank for around $10.00. My parents remembered when it was much less.
