1. Ukraine is a democracy, not run by Nazis. The President is Jewish. There’s a small combat battalion in the East which follows a neo-Nazi ideology but it doesn’t represent Ukraine as a whole. There are neo-Nazis everywhere in Europe, unfortunately, including in Russia. This pretext for war simply fails — it’s propaganda aimed at stirring up older Russians’ patriotic feelings from WWII, but it has little basis in reality.
2. How are we defending Ukraine with “woke nonsense?” We’re sending shoulder-fired missiles, protective equipment, and food and other humanitarian aid. We’re sanctioning Russia. Nothing to do with woke anything, but are foreign policy tools we’ve used for decades.
3. We’re not treating Russia like the Jews during the Holocaust. We’re treating Russia like the USSR during the Cold War — a dangerous nuclear-armed adversary that’s trying to impose its ideology through force.
4. NATO and the U.S. did not cause this war. That’s another Putinist lie. Putin ordered the troops across the border, and he’s the only one who can call them back. Putin has his propaganda and grievances, but at the end of the day, he is simply bullying a smaller neighbor, behaving like any Russian emperor from the past several centuries, long before America was ever involved in Europe.
If you don’t think we should be involved in supporting Ukraine whatsoever, so be it, but you can make the case based on our own national interests without buying into Putin’s delusional worldview.
