If you exclude New York City and the San Francisco Bay Area then about the same as blue states. Even so I lived in the SF Bay Area for 3 years. We left there and moved to a red state in the Midwest for 10 years before moved back west to another red state. I am a software developer and I've earned more money in red states than in California. The cost of living is much lower in the red states. In fact, as a person who lived most of their life in So Cal (plus 3 years in the SF Bay area), everything is better in a red state.

I will say that up until the 80's California was a really great place to live. But because the left just cannot leave things alone they had to utterly destroy any joy of living on California. Taxes are way too high and you can't do anything any more without the state shutting you down or making it very difficult.

I'm glad I don't have to put up with that crap but I do miss the weather.

I've lived in both Texas (my home for the past 31 years) and Connecticut and I made much more in Texas than Connecticut. And I made a dollar an out more in Connecticut. Their taxes are insane.

I'm pretty sure blue states have the highest taxes. I imagine Connecticut is insane. I've been to Massachusetts and I remember the people there called it Taxachusetts.

Average income doesn't matter if you don't also look at cost of living.

California and New York both have really high average incomes but they also have really high taxes and costs of living.

Wyoming and South Dakota have low average incomes but also low cost of living and low taxes.
