Masks are and have always been THE most respected aspect of medicine. That's why your surgeon will always wear one. Nothing in medicine is more certain than the fact that wearing a face mask helps control the spread of disease. The literature on this could (and does!) fill an entire library.

And it being a virus, wearing a face mask absolutely does help as it stops moisture on your breath from being a transmission vector.
