Dems only want to do that because they know they are losing in November.

No, dems are going to win in landslides because we didn't do jack to clean up the election systems. I doubt we'll ever have a non-dem, non-RINO in office again.

Chuck and Nancy | HOW DARE YOU USE OUR SUPPORT OF THE FILIBUSTER DURING REPUBLICAN MAJORITIES AGAINST US? | image tagged in chuck and nancy | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
These clowns rose to power before YouTube gave everyone instant access to everything they ever said.

I know that makes sense to you. But it makes no sense to anyone else.

Right, the Dems only used it 314 times when Trump was President.
You, madame, are as dumb as a box of rocks.

thesis, I can't believe anyone, of any political affiliation, wants to get rid of the filibuster. It's almost like people who think that way believe their party will always be in power!

I don't care. I just want it gone, I've ALWAYS wanted it gone, and if a politician has to worry about their financial backers in order to finally do the right thing, I'm just happy it's finally going.

would you be happy if Republicans win majority of the House and Senate this Fall and then without a filibuster, they can pass any bill they wish without any method of opposition from the Democratic party?

They would have to contend with the presidential veto which IS in the Constitution but the filibuster would be gone and I'd be happy that it would be.

It's not going anywhere, thesis.

this is so that one party can't pass anything they want, which is fair

Why, it's almost as if this much power wasnt intended to be held by the federal government...

Crazytalk, I know.

The filibuster is not in the Constitution. This is NOT government working as intended.

"It is not only a bad idea, it upsets the constitutional design, and it disservices the country. No longer would the Senate be that ‘different kind of legislative body’ that the founders intended. No longer would the Senate be the ‘saucer’ to cool the passions of the immediate majority."
Senator Joe Biden, regarding elimination of the Senate filibuster, 2005

I think that it was made a part of the senate rules relatively shortly after the country was founded, for the very reason of keeping a single party from running amok.

Gawd, what does it take for you to realize that, thesis? Do you want Trump/republicans to be able to jam through whatever they want if he gets elected again?
0 ups, 3y
It's not just fair, imo. It's essential and absolutely needed in order to prevent one party from running amok.

No, it's not. The party we voted for can't pass things we voted for because of a party that we didn't vote for?

That's the exact opposite of fair.

the filibuster supports bi-partisan support and not a 1-party rule. Biden himself has staunchly defended the filibuster and has many times filibustered to block certain bills, like the "civil rights act".

50% elected majority is not a deal you get from 1-party rule!!!

yes, the current 50-50 split in the Senate makes this filibuster problem worse

The last time there WASN'T a 50-50 split in the Senate, Friends was still on the air.

And that's half the argument right there: we CAN'T wait for both parties to agree on an issue before legislation gets passed. That just doesn't happen anymore.

"The last time there WASN'T a 50-50 split in the Senate, Friends was still on the air."

Well, since technically Friends is still on the air now, in the form of reruns, your statement could in some very twisted sort of way be considered accurate. HOWEVER, your memory of facts is faulty. Trump had a majority in the senate when he was elected, and I'm pretty sure Friends had already gone into reruns then.

So in the thesis reality, what year, specifically, was the last time the senate wasn't a 50-50 split?
