Yes, and they failed to do so because Trump wouldn't listen to them. This isn't surprising, but I guess it's useful to know in terms of where the blame should go.

I actually don't like playing the blame game. I prefer to move forward, preferably by getting all sides to agree that the only valid method of challenging an election is the Constitutional one: through the courts.

wrong.
This is Trump's original message from Jan-6th.
I did a screenshot before they permanently deleted his twitter account the other day.

Yes, that was a good (albeit insufficient) step. More importantly, do you agree that the courts are the only valid method to challenge an election?
4 ups, 3y,

Haha- no. Even the courts don't think so.
They threw out the cases without even trying them. Because they don't have subject-matter jurisdiction. Election integrity is none of their business.

What about the Constitution? Is that their business?

I prefer the declaration of independence.

Different documents for different purposes. Once a country has sovereignty, it needs to decide how to govern itself.

We are rapidly approaching declaration of independence territory.

Yes, and there are two kinds of people

1) those who are working to try and solve that problem
2) those who are trying to make it worse

Which one will you be?

I personally think we should arrest 99% of congress and charge them with treason. Only real solution.
3 ups, 3y
Unless and until we change *how* we elect our officials, they would simply be replaced by more of the same.

We need proportional ranked choice voting.

Looks like you need to be arrested for treason. THEY'RE ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES, they are not treasonous, but I think you are. Get a life other than on the internet.

"Looks like you need to be arrested for treason. THEY'RE ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES, they are not treasonous, but I think you are. Get a life other than on the internet."
They can still be arrested as long as they are not going to or from session. Read the constitution.

An insurrection sure as hell isn't a valid method.

Bullshit.

Yes he tweeted this, on that very day. They deleted his whole account the other day. The real coup.

Even his own son urged him to do more than one Tweet.

And this is President Trump's video address from Jan-6th after the protests breached the Capitol.
If Trump had been Hitler and the Jan-6th events had been an insurrection rather than a protest for election integrity history would have taken another course.

That's not a video. That's just a picture with some fake words.

Are you claiming that Trump did as his advisors and Fox News Hosts suggested and called off the rioters? What evidence do you have for this?

Me, I'm no liberal. I'm a Libertarian that thinks the two-party system leads to partisan polarization where the two sides hate each other so much that no constructive policy-making is possible.

then read bro...its says "text" they literally have phuqn text man. It's like talking to a brick wall
2 ups, 3y
Yes, texts. From what I understand, Trump's advisors including Don Jr. and Fox News Hosts like Ingraham and Hannity texted Meadows to unsuccessfully ask Trump to stop the Capitol riot, the riot being a clear example of the partisan polarization that I oppose.

Do you have differing information? What is your take on polarization or the potential of Ranked Choice Voting to heal the nation?

"'Mark, the president needs to tell the people in the Capitol to go home. This is hurting all of us. He is destroying his legacy,' Ingraham texted... 'Can he make a statement asking people to leave the Capitol?' Hannity asked in a text."

"Meadows, can you tell daddy to be a leader, it has got to stop, it has gotten out of control."

I treat partisans the same way I treat everyone. With kindness and respect. Anything else escalates the partisan polarization that is tearing the country apart.

What are your thoughts on what can bridge the divide? Have you heard of ranked choice voting?

IMHO it's beyond repair. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

Yes, it doesn't look good, but keep in mind that social media sites purposely enflame divisiveness to increase engagement. So, places like this aren't representative.

Using ranked choice voting also helps because candidates can't just cater to their base to win. They do better if they appeal across the aisle to get higher rankings from all voters.
2 ups, 3y,

The better answer would be to allow each elector to represent an area and vote independently from each other. Then the concentration of dems in big cities would not make the election turn on 3-4 big dem cities.
2 ups, 3y,

I wasn't talking about the Electoral College (the Constitution already allows both a lot of latitude for electors to vote how they wish as well as for states to allocate Electoral Votes, witness Maine and Nebraska) but elections in general at every level.

Right now, it's a game of each candidate catering to their base to boost turnout, which means that both candidates only represent less than half of the voters instead of of all the voters. Ranked choice voting would fix that.
2 ups, 3y,

So would required voting with an abdication option. If people were forced to go down to the polling place and cast a vote, then maybe they would pay attention.
Of course none of this matters until election integrity can be assured.
2 ups, 3y
Notice that voting turnout is much higher in nations that have multi-party systems and you'll better understand the root of the problem.

Coercion is usually a poor solution because it ignores the root issue.

The divide is self inflicted. If one cannot determine if ones source of information is even valid, how can accept any source? That group is in so much conflict with itself.

I have not heard of ranked choice. I have no issue with the electoral college. I understand why, aredraw.

What I dont agree with, is the district redraws. The politicians get together, and start pushing borders around, like their constituents are assets in a war!!!
2 ups, 3y
Well, that's politicians for you. Anything to win power.

The proportional version of ranked choice would fix gerrymandering, because that's all about gaming winner take all to maximize closer wins. In a proportional system, closer wins mean fewer seats than landslide wins, so line drawing buys them nothing.

Trump didn't try to stop anything. He waited until it was over when it was evident the insurrectionists had failed, then he just told them to go home. He should have said something from the beginning, but he didn't.

He did multiple times. Once in the speech before the trespassing, and another time in a tweet shortly after his speech. He also tried to call the national guard and DC police in, but was overruled by the DC mayor and Pelosi. Your dishonesty is showing.
