Let's say you live in a reasonably sized metropolitan area... how about the south bay area of SF where I live? Let's say there's some unrest, but you're monitoring the situation in advance of your drive home from work. There's been talk in the local media of riots possibly forming downtown, which is your normal route home. Out of an abundance of caution, you take the next best route home, which goes by the county sheriff's office, and several county buildings. (no other route is practical, since a huge airport is between your home and your work) As a responsible person who would never climb through broken windows, you're monitoring the situation, and the coast is clear downtown, but it doesn't matter because of your alternate route. In the three minutes it takes you to get on the road and drive past where the sheriff's office is, a flash mob has formed. In fact, it practically formed right on top of you. You being you, your appearance leads the mob to think you're not on board with their particular brand of social justice (even though you being you, you probably are.) The mob attacks your car, and it looks like they're about to set it on fire. You manage to escape it, and in so doing are mixed right in with the rioters. About that time, the mob is up against a newly formed skirmish line of deputies protecting govt offices. One of the mob near you pulls out a gun and starts waving it at the deputies. The mob has almost over-run the deputies' skirmish line, so one of the deputies decides it's time to get things under control.
