great meme ... glad there's are no missspeliing this time !! .. lol ...I can't take a stance on either side of this issue 'cos I'm not knowledgeable enuf ... but a study I heard on a podcast said a sample group taking 0.2 mg a week reduced the incidence of covid infection by 75% .... so if anyone is considering using Ivemectin, animal or otherwise, as a prophylactic...then 0.2 mg a week might be the correct dose ...seems like a minuscule amount.

Is it fair that people called it a horse dewormer when it is safe for use in humans? No.

But, there were issues with dosage and not taking it as it would have been prescribed. People were often taking a dose formulated for a horse and overdosing.

https://scitechdaily.com/ivermectin-can-people-take-a-drug-for-horses-and-cows-to-treat-a-deadly-virus/

"For one thing, animal drugs are often highly concentrated because they are used for large animals like horses and cows, which weigh a lot more than we do—a ton or more. Such high doses can be highly toxic in humans. Moreover, the FDA reviews drugs not just for safety and effectiveness of the active ingredients, but also for the inactive ingredients. Many inactive ingredients found in products for animals aren’t evaluated for use in people. Or they are included in much greater quantity than those used in people. In some cases, we don’t know how those inactive ingredients will affect how ivermectin is absorbed in the human body."

Yeah no. It was found that most of the media coverage on overdoses were false.

I saw one hospital denied ivermectin was causing a backlog, so this may be exaggerated. I acknowledge that the reported increase in overdose/exposure is useless without some idea about how many people are taking it. A 163% increase is less than double. If usage didn't increase by that same % then it's an issue. If it increased by much more than that, it's less of an issue. I only see 2 overdose deaths reported.

I respect that npr gave the numbers and not just the percent, but I also agree that a lot of outlets let people assume those percentages meant more. Maybe it was just standard "fear sells", but I would agree they tried to make it seem higher at a casual read. Not cool.

Being fair it probably shouldn't be used to treat coronavirus

Not very much evidence it helps. If people did tests on it and it helped with covid I would definitely think it helped

A five-day course of ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19 may reduce the duration of illness

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33278625/

Hope this helps

The info isn't suppressed. You just referenced it off of nih.gov.

The problem with a non-doctor reading that is they may not understand that a 5 day course of ivermectin is one dose. It stays in the system for a while. Someone getting info online and then getting a dose formulated for a horse has a dual chance of harming themselves - overdosing by quantity and overdosing by taking it multiple times.

How about when Joe Rogen was prescribed it by a physician?

You mean was it horse dewormer? No, not if it was a human formulation and dosage. And yes I'm aware that Don Lemon called it horse dewormer. Whether he was misleading or was just making fun of him for taking something not recommended for use, it was wrong. Since most people took it literally, I would call it disinformation. Maybe he mislead on purpose and maybe not, but that wasn't right.
