This site has always leaned more Right, membership-wise, and saw a massive influx of Alt Righties mid summer 2016. It got so bad, they split Politics off the main stream. Before then, you could have a civil debate here.

As anyone can see from the Front Page, the majority contingent upvotes even multiples of basically the same meme, and drowns out other voices en masse. There used to even be downvote trolls - one notorious clique in particular - that would DV memers into crippling prolonged timers and DV their memes into unfeatured status (back when that could be done).

That's why PoliticsToo was created, as a response to the hostility. Of course being the majority in that stream, members of that contigent can get a tad territorial themselves.

I remember the split. Bitterness and rage that pro trump memes were hitting the top of the hot page and boy, were there some mad people. Think that was more of a factor than 'unreasonable conversations'.

An influx of at-times even abusive hostile Trumpites mid summer 2016 turned the front page from an assortment of creative and humorous memes into a flame war cesspool, discouraging non-political and more civil types. The majority (active on the main stream, at least) were adults. Most of those from what is now referred to as imgflip's "Golden Age" are gone as a result.
