Only people against making a new nation were the rich elites, who were making quite a bit of money through imports. When and if they called for a night brute squad to see what's amiss, the people revolutionizing the country responded with a "we know, and?" Response.

Revised estimates are Only about 20% were loyal to the crown the rest were either patriots or undecided. In the end the Patriots were successful in selling their cause over the loyalists to the undecided. No one will ever know for sure because there is no exact number just estimates.
