That all depends on who you're talking about. All parties involved have their reasons. Doctors get incentives ($$$) for diagnosing cases, patients on respirators, covid as CoD, and vaccines. Big Pharma makes billions. Gates said that vaccines are the best investment he's ever made. Lapdogs (politicians) think they'll be getting a pat on the back and a seat at a table when this is over.
I would pay attention to Klaus Schwab from WEF who's slogan of Building Back Better is echoed by sold out politicians around the world.
Ultimately, they want to merge us with AI. This isn't anything new, Silicone Valley has been talking about it for decades. Covid is just an excuse to inject us with shit that will facilitate this. It was never about the virus, thus they inflated the numbers, inflicted fear, and denied therapeutics in order to get what they were always after - access to our bodies, mind and soul.

It's the fact that time after time, the media tried to claim Trump was "wrong", but only now is Trump being proven correct. It speaks volumes about the horrible state of the media. Basically, media disinformation/misinformation (whatever you want to call it) likely persuaded enough voters to choose Biden, and now we're left with this horror show. So basically, the media has led our nation down a path of ruin.
