Sticking with the theme/movie is not copying.. It shows recognition of the reference without blatantly saying "oh ya I know that movie". Some of my favorite times here were in conversations which stuck with memes from a movie or which had some theme.. Maybe you prefer a conversation with a bunch of random memes with pics from everywhere but I do not.

Nope, its the most likely scenario. I can't prove it absolutely without looking at your internet search history, but its probably what happened. We can't trust a word out of your mouth, so there's no way to verify it either way.
