Participation trophies as a concept are bad. They don't even soften kids up they are just a reminder of failure. We should reward hard work towards a goal. But participation trophies aren't a reward.

It teaches a false sense of reality. Trophies are awarded to those that earn them, in a competitive sense and if everyone gets some sort of award then it dilutes the actual competitive nature of the game being played. Definitely a no for me.

Any parent that allows their child to participate in events that give out "participation trophies" is either complicit in the corruption of their child's moral compass and will or is completely oblivious that their child's will is being stolen so that they can be compliant, submissive sheople when they become adults.

I say there shouldn’t be trophies for who IS the best, but who IMPROVED the most. Because say you play in a 3-5 grade basketball season, no third grader is gonna score many points or block many shots, but they could improve a lot.

Nah

Then what's the point of winning? It's hard to improve if you're already at the top, so those who were already the best don't get the awards they've earned.

Yeah but then typically all player are only worried about being the best. When I played my teammates even sabotaged each other just to be the highest scoring.

Nah, not really. It’s like getting one for breathing. Plus, if you lose, you know how to improve.

When you're 4.. yes. Chicken Little is a true story and having the courage to take the plate in front of everyone is worthy of love. However.. there are no T Ball trophies for transcending the id.

Bad! Two reasons:

1. Achievement is discouraged when there is no penalty for bad performance.
2. With no experience on dealing with failure, kids aren't prepared for the realities of the world.
[deleted]
1 up, 3y
Yea
1. I dont think people should be penalized for failing but achievments and celebrations shouldnt be given to all who participated when it was a competition
2. Yep humans are in a world of competition, between money, food, and equity and home investments, humans are constantly forced to give it everything they’ve got...participation trophies are like one billion dollars for breathing 02

Well some kids like them but if I ever got one I wouldn't like it bc I would just think it as a stinkin' raisin, it's like getting a reward for losing

Kind of reminds me of that one commercial where the dad takes off the “participation” logo of his son’s trophy and writes on “champ” with a sharpie, and he says “why do we get the same trophies as the team we beat?”

Nope. A colossal waste of time, money, and prestige. You want a participation trophy, take pictures. It has juts as much value.
