Bidens new old catch and release let’s people make phony asylum claims and then are released into the country to “await” a hearing that most never show up for.

Considering that the extension of the border closure policy currently in place was actually issued by the Trump administration weeks ago, it seems you and JackRipper's complaints are misplaced.

Furthermore even with the numbers coming way back down in both countries, if you're going strictly off the numbers, the current United States corona infection rate is about 10x as high as it is in Mexico..... so if anything THEY should be the ones demanding our border get shut down completely. (Although to be fair, it's possible we just have much better access to testing than they do..idk)

California is still in the highest “purple” tier of infection and deaths have been higher than last summer. Yet now you guys say it’s not that bad? I don't know what the threshold for the "purple tier of infection" in California is based on... but it looks like California new cases (similar to much of the rest of the nation) are coming wayy down from where they were during the Thanksgiving/ Christmas/ New Years holiday seasons. I personally would not say it's not that bad... I would say it's not as bad as it was.

The daily deaths (like new cases) are beginning to plateau/go down and I heard about CNN "taking down the covid death counter" or whatever and that has been debunked. If they had changed the sensitivity on inauguration day for political reasons, cases would've gone down immediately or shortly thereafter....not before.

I don't entirely blame you though... The donald and countless others (especially here) equated the flu with Covid for so long the idea that masks etc essentially killed one but not the other probably would seem like evidence of a conspiracy.

Yes Covid and the flu are both viruses and they spread the same way. Covid is no more contagious than the flu but the sickness it causes is worse. So your argument isn’t holding water.

Actually there have been pandemics prior to the one here now. In the 1918 worldwide pandemic people wore masks.

Besides the above CDC quote, based on what I've read under normal circumstances the R0 of covid is roughly double that of the flu, the incubation period of covid can be up to 4x as long as the flu, the period of transmission is almost double, covid particles may remain in the air longer than the flu due to density and/or size, there are over the counter treatments for the flu which may shorten the period of illness/transmission and none for covid, etc..

In the 1918 pandemic people wore masks.. what's your point? Were the masks not effective? Did they also sanitize and social distance? Was there another illness circulating at the time that didn't drop off while they did this? Where were you going with that..?

How It Spreads

Both the flu and COVID-19 spread in similar ways. Droplets or smaller virus particles from a sick person can transmit the virus to other people nearby. The smallest particles may linger in the air, and another person can inhale them and become infected.
Or, people can touch a surface with viruses on it, and then transfer the germs to themselves by touching their face.

The difference is people don’t have exposure immunity to the new virus. Other than that causing more severe illness they are essentially the same, doesn’t explain the reduction in regular flu cases.

You now seem to be arguing the points I agree with you on and ignoring everything else I said.

The flu has never experienced the combination of all preventive measures taken this year as well as the record number of vaccinations. That is what caused the reduction in regular flu cases. People wearing masks 1 time a century ago seems like a kind of weak counterpoint. There has been no season ever in America when the seasonal flu ever had to compete against all those measures taken in 2020.....And unfortunately Covid is not the flu. Covid is considerably more contagious and more easily transmissible than the flu. So the same protective measures which beat the crap out of one are not quite as effective against the other.
