Not really. For those that don't know, that's Warren Buffet, the guy who owns the majority of the railroads that will transport the oil & gas and stands to make a ton of money off of this. Also donates big time to Biden & DNC.
And of course, you're moving way far away from the OP's point that trains & trucks still burn fossil fuels and pipelines don't, so again, is it really about the environment? No, it's about money and influence.
Great Meme Facebook hates it and will cover it up if you post it. They say that only 4300 tractor trailers of oil are required to replace pipeline. they miss the complete point of the meme. LOL.
eyyy federal agent moment. the pipeline was prone to leaking, especially since it was being built by the U.S. government, which is awful at everything. trains are actually better at transporting goods in bulk, and they're run privately. the U.S. rail freight network is actually world class
trains burn less fuel compared to trucks when the output is compared. they are also cheaper to use than pipelines
derailments for oil transport are often remote, while pipelines can be close to residential areas. the only reason derailments happen more than pipeline leaks is because there is a greater number of rail mileage than pipeline mileage.
ever found a holocaust denial video? because if you find one, the absurdity will probably make your head explode if you think my arguments are absurd. friggin' imgflip users and there inability to debate
the damages done by a leaking pipeline are astronomically worse than the pollution of a handful of locomotives transporting hundreds of tankers across the states. it's also not hard to electrify railroads either, even freight railroads, though i do digress when it comes to the lack of freight train companies actually electrifying. the best i've seen so far is BNSF doing this:
https://www.gladstein.org/gna-casestudies/bnsf/
not exactly electrifying, but a step in the right direction
your argument now relies on me being the type of person who singles out a specific climate issue. remember that electrification & hydrogen always exists.
I'm going to have to remember this one when someone's ranting about how many temporary jobs were lost..... Sounds like thousands of permanent jobs were saved.
:)
Temporary jobs are still jobs. Now 11,000 people need to go find a different opportunity. Even with the pipeline, those truck drivers and train conductors would still have jobs.
Now?? Biden said he would revoke the permit for Keystone like.. 8 months ago.. and he was elected 3 months ago... But if these people don't already have pipe welding/ pipe construction jobs elsewhere perhaps they could look into a career in building miniature violins to play sad, sad songs to mourn the death of pipeline. :(
Or...... They could go on ZipRecruiter and look though the 12,000+ pipeline construction job opportunities currently posted.
:)
Indeed, our modern industrialized world is founded upon many products whose production and use creates CO2 emissions. We need streamlining and refinement of many industrial processes.
The problem of our relationship to the environment is multifaceted and extraordinarily complex. Buying a Tesla and calling it a day isn't going to do it, not least for the reason that the electricity fueling the electric car is derived from an electric grid with a large makeup of coal/oil/natural gas.
But we sure won't get a handle on it by denying the problem and refusing to take even minimal steps.
"Buying a Tesla and calling it a day isn't going to do it, not least for the reason that the electricity fueling the electric car is derived from an electric grid with a large makeup of coal/oil/natural gas."
Absolutely agree to that! I was out last week and saw a Tesla with a license plate that said "COLPWRD". I'm still kicking myself that I didn't take a picture of that!
INSTEAD OF 830,000 BARRELS OF OIL FLOWING HARMLESSLY THROUGH THE KEYSTONE PIPELINE; THEY NOW MUST USE 4,400 SEMI - TRUCKS AND 1,300 TRAIN CARS EVERY DAY TO MOVE THE OIL; STILL THINK IT WAS ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT ?
