I used to strongly believe that dems and pubs were pretty much the same, and it was just some little details that separated them. I had (well, still have...) my problems with both parties. I've been registered as non-affiliated from jump.
Currently, I feel that the way the dems reacted to Trump as soon as he announced, was way overboard. Sure, if you don't like him, that's fine. His personality is big, and waaaaay rough around the edges. But they should be better than him, and not sink to his level with crazy behavior, and trying to justify actions that they wouldn't ordinarily support, all in the name of getting rid of him. The ends can't justify the means.
Then on top of that, a good chunk of the dems seem to be trying to take a hard turn to the left. Back when crazy Pat Buchanan was trying to co-opt the pubs even though he was far right, I thought that if he had an ounce of integrity (a standard that's very hard for *any* politician to meet!), he'd form his own party and leave the more moderate pubs alone. I feel the same way about Bernie, AOC, the squad, etc., now.
I think the reality is that the majority of Americans, maybe even the vast majority who are moderate (both dems and pubs) would find a comfortable fit in a middle of the road party. Then let the crazies on either extreme of the political spectrum form their own two parties. A three party system might work just fine. It couldn't work any worse than what we've got now.
Sorry for getting carried away there. Exiting soap box mode... now.
