I doubt the Nobel Committee is going to award such a coveted prize to a tax cheat!

There's nothing illegal about pre-paying taxes and carrying over losses, and that is what happened here. Honestly, this is old news that is just being recycled for an election. It played out last time and will this time too. Only ones falling for this bs are people who can't keep up and deliberately run from the facts when they are presented.

I agree with you. There is not but it is fair to be concerned about who he owes over 400 Million dollars to. He could also simply release the information and make the NYT look like massive imbeciles and sure the shit out of them

BTW Trump as usual claimed it's all "fake news" So riddle me this? If it's a fake story how would they have broken the law by getting the information.

It would possibly be slander maybe but you can't illegally obtain records that don't exist.

I'm no accountant but writing off $70,000 allegedly spent on "haircuts" as a business expense might be illegal... Allegedly claiming a "total loss" from a casino that went bankrupt despite getting a 5 percent stake in the company that emerged from the bankruptcy also might have been illegal.. but that being said, he might lawyer his way out or maybe it's simply fake news idk. I haven't actually seen the returns. What I did see was his charity and university get shut down. I would assume the Nobel Committee has also seen that.

It's the "allegedly" that I no longer take issue with. I've seen that word in every accusation, most of which are no longer talked about. Anonymous sources, allegedly, 'people close to the...' All of that means nothing now that it's been so used and abused by his enemies in the press. The IRS has been holding on to these taxes and there has been no peep from them, so I'm not concerned with the "alleged" claims of biased companies or people. I don't care much for the man, but I do recognize that there is a push to discredit anything he does, and information from those people is automatically suspect IMO. Also...Trump doesn't actually "do" his taxes. His accountants and lawyers handle that, taking responsibility for their own actions. If he owns 500 companies, he probably isn't even that familiar with day to day operations anyway, much less the mindfield that accountants have to navigate. My accountant does the same thing. He takes my receipts and works his magic if he can, all done within the law as it is written. Don't like the law...change it. Trump has advocated for a flat tax that would eliminate all this...but no one seems to be interested in fixing things in Washington.

I actually added the word "allegedly"myself in order to leave room for possible error.

I guess we'll have to wait and see what the IRS finds. I'd like to know where he got his haircut. $5,800 per month on haircuts seems quite extravagant.

Trump did change the law. He complained about "hedge fund guys" paying virtually no taxes in 2015 and claimed it's unfair.... then he changed the law to let them pay less. Talk is cheap.

At the time he was in the entertainment business, many things beauty/image related can be written off as a business expense

For that amount he could've had a $191 haircut every single day that year.

Good point. We don't know who cut his hair. For all we know he paid Ivanka $70,000 to do it. Then he used it as part of his business tax write-offs to get that $72.9 million tax return.

Seems ironic Repubs bashed John Kerry over a $75 haircut.... Their heads must surely be exploding over this. I'd probably be able to hear it if only the crickets weren't so loud.

Unless you have seen the actual deduction on the actual tax form, all you are doing is repeating hearsay. It seems to be a lot like the recent anonymous sources attributing quotes to Trump. Those anonymous sources were never backed up or revealed. -just a big smear job. And a critical part of the story attributed to anonymous sources was proven false.

Another good point. We haven't actually seen them. He should really stick it to the perpetrators of this NYT liberal hit job and release the tax returns himself. But I know, I know... he can't... because he's such good friends with the NYT and Joe Biden. And it would actually be illegal because he's under audit. Seems legit.
:P

If the tax returns are under audit and subject to revision before final approval between him and the IRS. releasing them is inappropriate as they are not finalized.NYT is making Claims they cannot back up. If they do have his tax returns they have them illegally, which is why they have not released them and they could be charged for a crime for releasing them. I believe they’re making claims to goad him into releasing them. He is calling their bluff.

Shirley you can't be serious. Sorry but your argument that Trump of all people isn't releasing his tax returns.. because it would be "inappropriate".. is ridiculous on its face. But deeper than that... Seems to me releasing them would actually would be entirely appropriate.

Since the 1970's every single president has been audited and either released their tax returns or released a bunch of information regarding them (Ford). So why do you feel like it would it be inappropriate for Trump to do it?

And not finalized? We're talking about returns from ~4 years ago.

And as far as the NYT, if a 3rd party illegally obtained the returns and gave them to the NYT, and the information therein was in the public interest and wouldn't harm anything but the Donald's reputation, I'm not sure if what happened would be illegal as far as the NYT is concerned.

However, IF they were simply making stuff up about his returns out of thin air, THAT might be considered libelous and therefore illegal.... and one of his next moves should theoretically be suing them for very specific lies.

NYT needs to back up their claims. They cannot do it. Trump doesn’t need to prove anything. In the meantime all they’re doing is publishing speculation
