Listen to yourselves. Your guy now has to explain what we can see in black and white. I understand the fact that "write-offs" can reduce an enormous tax bill down to zero. Many rich people and companies pay little to zero in taxes, as a result. And, I think people understand that they push things and maybe bend a rule or two. My guess is that the New York Times' tax lawyers and the accountants for the reporters writing the story about his taxes file their returns in ways that let them pay as little as possible. That is how "the system," works. I think most people "get," that.
But, you guys are acting like he is innocent and the people who caught him in all of this are evil for doing so. The prisons are full of "innocent." people. Charges won't be brought, because of Justice Department policies regarding sitting presidents. And, the DOJ does not discuss charges they do not bring. So, that will have to wait until he is a "civilian." I read a quote from him (I have not had a chance to confirm it) that he expects to have a large tax fine. If that is a true quote, he knows he pushed things too far.
He promised he would show us these forms. It is now clear that he bent the rules into pretzels, at least. What he called "smart," in the 2016 debates, appears to experts to be illegal. He has the right to explain the discrepancies. Here's an idea. He should label them "The Wuhan Taxes," and blame the Chinese for what he did. You guys would defend that, right?
