Ah yes, the unobtainable liberal utopia. When I was but a wee college student, I believed in the concepts of socialism, redistribution of wealth, decriminalization of drugs, etc. But, then I grew up and became a productive member of the U.S. workforce. I voted for Obama for his first term, then abstained from voting for either of the lousy candidates in 2012. After that, I began seeing things through the lens of pragmatism. These utopian societies only exist in cartoons, like the one above, or in textbooks for various methodologies that claim to solve all of the world's problems. The reality is, we are lucky to live in a country that grants its citizens so many freedoms. Many countries across the globe crush dissent with an iron fist. We are also lucky to live in a society where the poorest people are still leaps and bounds ahead those who dwell in places like sub-Saharan African or Afghanistan. Instead, we have a vocal minority that is driving politics towards a failed state attempt at utopia. And the spineless democrat politicians are pandering to this vocal minority. It is insanity. Getting rid of the police will only make it easier for the criminal element to grab power and for mob rule to be the law of the land. Perhaps mob rule will one day replace police. If it does, you may not like the end you find yourself on because sometimes even supporters of these anarchist atmospheres find themselves on the receiving end of brutal "justice", carried out via summary judgment, where the "defendant" is declared guilty and is then given one chance to speak before he/she is killed by the mob. Gun sales are skyrocketing, and it's not just conservatives buying them. Reasonable liberals are concerned about having to defend themselves and their families from the criminal element that is just lurking in the shadows, waiting for conditions to be ripe for them to exert control/power over people who are not willing to stoop to the level of killing others to get what you want.
