The only reason memes can even be created anonymously is to ensure people don't have to log out of their account to create a meme for sharing outside of imgflip. Some people may not want their work colleagues or real life friends seeing their imgflip account. We may actually change submissions to not allow anonymous anymore as it kind of goes against accountability, and I think anon comments would do the same. People can anon comment to some extent by creating new accounts, but it's much more laborious.

Agreed, people can make memes to share outside imgflip if they want but they shouldn’t be able to submit them anonymously.

Re: Doing away with anonymous submissions. That’d be nice. Improve accountability even if only to a username tied to an email address.

They already do this with alt accounts. If you don't have the guts to say something then you should not be saying it. See, like this exchange here. What if I came in here an made this comment anonymously? That would be cowardice and essentially hiding. Have confidence in whatever you say. If you do not want to own your words then do not put them out there. That is my opinion.

True, however, there's never just one way to use something, is there? It's not like everything someone says has to be bad either, and I agree, if you got something to say, say it, but it's not like everyone has bad intentions, just like memes, are all anonymous meme-makers bad? no, some are positive. Do not hide. When you want to speak do so with honesty. Bad or good. Just say what you need to say. Period. Anonymous memes are similar. Though sometimes I have seen memes referencing certain abuse they have suffered. So not entirely the same. Comments are made TO someone. Memes are more of a general way of putting something out there to everyone. So really not an equal comparison. If you are commenting TO someone have a spine about what you are saying. Good or bad.

As a general rule (although there are a few exceptions) the only use for anonymity on the internet is ABUSE. By using a nickname and hiding behind an avatar you can already disguise yourself a bit if you don't want a future boss to find stuff while googling your name or something cheesy like that. Still even that nickname gives you at least for moderation and administration purposes some kind of identification which is, especially when breaking rules and such a good way to "set up a record" to see if people broke the rules so much a ban could be in order.

In meme creation there may still be some kind "less danger", but in comments where the flame wars happen, definitely not. If you really wanna pick a fight, then at least be brave enough not to hide who you are.

Most of the wrong behavior on the internet is done under the idea nobody knows who you are.

The reasons to really disguise yourself in full do exist, but they are few.
