This site has blown up a lot since the streams were separated. Many of you remember this, but many of you haven't been here pre multiple stream. Yes, there was a time when Imgflip had only one stream and it was called "fun." Political memes were mixed in and so was everything else. If you wanted to post a meme about Donald Trump or Barack Obama, you posted it in the "fun" stream along with everything else. Cats and reposts? They went in the fun stream. You had 3 submissions per day and then it was lowered to two.

This all being said, here are some guidelines to the site; some unwritten rules you might say.

1) When you comment on a meme, upvote the meme. The exception to this rule is in politics where there are basically two groups of people. The right and the left. And most of them hate each other and troll. But every other meme you feel the need to comment on, make sure you do the right thing and upvote it.

2) If someone comments on your meme, upvote their comment. The exceptions to this rule are trolls, users who are rotten to you, or someone who didn't upvote your meme. But for the most part, it's only polite to upvote their comment since they took the time to upvote and comment on your meme.

3a) When someone is rotten to you, just downvote their comment and move on. They don't deserve your response. IF you decide to respond to their shitty attitude don't lower yourself to their level and do the same. It really makes no sense and doesn't really solve anything.

3b) A side not about users being rotten toward you. Please be aware that not everyone is out to get you. Some of us (me included) are just trying to give constructive criticism. No need to threaten killing yourself. There seems to be a lot of that going around lately on this site. It's weird to me to see all these kids (12-17 year olds) talking about killing themselves.

4) Since the streams are now separated and have been for over a year, the best thing to do is just post memes in the streams you want. The only exceptions to this is politics. This is the original reason they separated the streams, to keep politics out of the fun stream and they will move or un-feature the meme.

Lmfao, the only reaction given.

For somebody who is really into politics there is no "left" or "right", but only terms people use to distinguish themselves like like that, and I wonder as the polarization about politics I see lately is getting out of hand. Hehehe... I've once been branded a "leftist" for saying a few things that are actually considered "right", so I guess that shows how much people know.

Also the satement is black-white also... There are reasons to criticize statements done in non-political memes that therefore do not deserve an upvote... It is not always worth a downvote either. Downvotes are for me nothing more than to state something is really really bad. There is ALWAYS a middle ground in things.

#2 is in most cases true (there are more exceptions than trolls. For example: Sometimes I got reactions to my memes I simply don't understand and then I'll neither upvote nor downvote. And asking for a clarification can sometimes have terrible results, so I found out. If I know you and know you won't try to act really unnice to me, I might ask, so I know how to properly respond). If a comment is nice and also fitting in the meme, upvoting is indeed the least one do... As an addition, taking a look at the commenter's page and see if you can respond to a few of their memes can be a good idea... I mostly do that, however if I see memes I cannot agree with, I won't comment not upvote them, but if I see good ones, I mostly will... I hope it goes without saying that even though I like your comments on my memes doesn't mean I will agree with everything you say.

I remember when folks were begging to have the Politics separated from everything else, and I understand why. However, it has occurred to me the two could have been separated without breaking up the entire site. Seems to me like taking a hammer to separate a loaf of bread -or, in other words, making mess to address a simple problem.

I can see why they did it, however they went to far as you mentioned and completely separated everything, which was unnecessary. I didn't like the idea of separating politics just because a few complained about it, but I see the point.

I think the reason they started the whole meme stream and having users moderate their own, is because they didn't want to have to worry about it all. They moderate the fun and politics stream and a couple others, but that's it. Less work for them when users are moderating their own streams.

Re: 3). The site now has a block feature, so if you don't want to deal with someone that is rotten to you, you can click on the name in a post to go to their profile and hit the block button.

5) Just because you have your name on the 7 day leaderboard, doesn't mean you're the "god of Imgflip." It just means you're posting 10+ memes a day and commenting a lot. There is no "god" of Imgflip, but if you insist on dubbing someone a "god," may I suggest someone who has been here longer than a few months and have more than one million points? And possibly someone who is genuinely liked by most Imgflippers? This whole worship thing is ridiculous and isn't productive.

6) Quit upvote begging! Seriously though, there is a stream that was created to beg for upvotes. Use it. Or just don't beg for upvotes. Most of us don't care if someone or something is going to haunt us or scare us when we're sleeping cause we didn't upvote your stupid meme. If you want a lot of points, comment a lot on memes. You'll get a lot of points that way and it doesn't make you look like an idiot with your begging for upvotes.

7) This is a personal nit-pick. I've been noticing a lot of meme streams named after users. If you are a user and created one after your name, you just come off as a narcissist and an a-hole. If someone else made one in your honor, it would probably behoove you not to join that stream becauseit makes you look like a narcissist and an a-hole. Just saying.

This site got bombarded with a bunch of kids (13-17 years old) and has definitely changed a lot since I started 7 years ago. I would say that most of them seem okay, but their memes make no sense and are being shoved to the front page. There are streams that deal with the younger crowd like the middle school stream. But some of the kids here are pretty depressing and lame. Always talking about suicide and how much their lives suck. Dude, you're 13 years old. You life is fine. Unless you're being beaten and abused by your parents, your life is good. And if that's the case, I'd suggest you tell someone you know, not someone on Imgflip. We're here to make memes, not listen to you cry about how bad life is.

A forum on a music site I used to frequent before getting active here in 2016 was getting invaded by young cutter suicidal emos suffering from the usual litany of ADD, OCD, ASD, PTSD, and SSS (Speshul Snowflake Syndrome). It was 18+, but same deal, all on the verge of suicide that's going to happen one day that isn't today.

I think the separation of streams took away the hostile atmosphere from Fun that might have kept them at bay here, that and the lack serious topics they were totally out of their element in. There's only so much one can do by commenting "ok boomer" without getting laughed out on their ass.

On that site I was on, those whiny Emos got their asses served to them on a platter, so they didn't last on the forum. But since that's the incoming generation, as older folks move on to other things, they'll be taking over eventually.

Oh hey man. About the user-named streams, some of them were actually made by others without the acknowledgement of the actual user.

Oh yeah, some were made in memory of memers after they deleted themselves as well.

I would have to ask: for #5, who would you consider as the closest thing to Imgflip God? Because there's going to be different opinions between the Imgflip veterans like you and me, the newer adult users, and the kids.

Completely agree on the upvoting comments thing. It irritates me to no end when you can't be bothered to upvote comments. They're free after all, why be stingy? Also, if you don't upvote comments, I'm just not motivated to interact with you. I realize it shouldn't be all about collecting the points, but it feels awesome to collect a whole bunch of them.

I get being depressed and suicidal as a teen, I went through that phase myself as a teen. Even tried to hang myself a couple of times. However, I changed some of my habits, got away from my parents, and grew out of that chemical imbalance. I would say to those going through the emo phase to go outside, skip school, and find something to enjoy in life. If someone is truly feeling depressed and looking to change it, I'm willing to talk them through it and try and get them on the right path. However, saying you're going to kill yourself just for the attention you might get is a slimiest things you can do.

Pressing the upvote button is easily forgotten as it's an extra action after all.
Some website also feature the "rate+comment" feature as extra to cover that. Sorry about that (And you get that the meme I posted is just a joke, right?)

Once you get in the habit of it, it's not even something you think about. Plus it helps boost your popularity on the site. It's pretty fun to see how high up you can climb on the leaderboard. And don't worry, I caught the joke ;)

I have been on and off imgflip for the past 5 years and have noticed an inordinate amount of memes that are so childish-and on the front page. I pretty much keep to politics where the other grownups are and a couple of specialty streams like think tank.

I’ve allowed myself to be browbeaten into upvoting comments before but I view it as upvote-begging

I won’t sell out for just anybody capable of interacting with me without hurling an insult in my direction: you gotta earn this upvote yo

That's why I mentioned the exception to the rule is in politics. However, if someone is being rotten, I wouldn't upvote the comment either. I usually upvote comments that aren't name-calling and political hate. Or if someone doesn't upvote my comment, why would I upvote theirs?
