First legitimate criticism of Thunberg I've seen here. I hope the stats are real.

On top of what antithesis said, there's another interesting bit that isn't mentioned here:

Both China and India have large populations of people that either live(ed) without electricity or suffer from regular rolling blackouts. These countries prioritized the establishment of a stable source of power, and the only cost-effective way of doing that was to build an ass-load of coal plants.

Also, as we speak China is building some of the largest solar grids on the planet, and in India the use of coal should drastically decrease the country's reliance on diesel generators.

They are, but they're being presented in a misleading way. Our emissions dropped quite sharply between roughly 2008 and 2016 and have been ticking back up in roughly the last three years. There's something familiar about those dates but I can't quite put my finger on it...

don't think she was praising them. if anything, though, china and india are trying to rid their smog problems by investing in rail transit

But are China and India investing in rail to help alleviate carbon emissions or are they investing in it to boost their economy and give their people a better way to get around and it just so happens that trains are cleaner than cars or planes? Plus you have to factor in even if both countries and throwing in the US for good measure created fully electric railways, that electricity will still be coming from coal plants.

"But are China and India..."
The latter, clearly. They care about moving people more than the environment.

"Plus you have to factor in even if both countries and throwing in the US for good measure created fully electric railways, that electricity will still be coming from coal plants"

That is true. I think we can change that if we invest in other forms of power. However, i will argue that emissions per person, a vital factor to consider on climate policy, on electric train is still far less than a person on diesel train, car, or plane, no matter what power plant is supplying it

Fair point. However, even if China and India stopped building fossil fuel power plants (which they won't) and made the next step to cleaner energy which would be nuclear IMO, it'll take a long time for them to wean themselves off fossil fuels so we won't be able to get that down before the point of no return.
1 up, 6y
True. I don't understand why we ostracize western civilization for climate change. Although, while we are well-developed, I think it's important to do as much as we can while we still can. Then we can be moral grandstands better than what woodrow wilson wanted

I say "while we still can" because I believe, sometime in the future, China might develop tunnels that can withstand water pressure and invade entire continents with said tech.
4 ups, 6y,

All three are a problem, China and India due to huge population size and the US starting out with the highest carbon footprint! You can't just look at percentages, you need to look at the actual figures.
0 ups, 6y,

So we need to eliminate the population in China and India to solve the problem? Right?!
0 ups, 6y,
1 reply
That would work, but, and I am sure this will come as no surprise, that is ethically and morally questionable....
0 ups, 6y,
1 reply
Nah, I think overpopulation is an excuse. If each individual did their part they will not have such high number of carbon emmissions. The problem is that in those countries they do not get educated and noone confronts them. It has nothing to do with population, that's just an excuse and a bad attempt to continue push the guilt on USA.
0 ups, 6y,

If you think that way then it is the average american that needs a drastic change in lifestyle, not the average Indian. The US and China are the two biggest absolute producers of CO2 but per capita China is less than half of the US. We await the US citizens to step up and take the lead....

yeas please keep waiting while doing absolutely nothing about China and India.

Colorado School Shooter Was ‘Transgender.’ Is It Time to Ban Them?
May 9, 2019

Guns don’t kill people. Transgenders kill people.

As we have discovered, one of the recent Colorado school shooters was transgender. The 18 year-old student (name withheld by P&P) suffered from gender dysphoria, a crippling mental and spiritual condition which makes someone live under the delusion they are not their biological gender. An appearance in court showed a troubled young man who was pretending to be a woman.

Of course, it’s men who are mass shooters, meaning that taking a gun to his peers was one of the least feminine things this man could do (an FBI study on mass shootings in America could find only 6 perpetrated by women, and even they stretch the limit of what can be called a “mass shooting”).
Words to Consider from Someone Affected by a School Shooting

A question should be asked of us whether or not we should consider an outright transgender ban in America for our public safety and well being. How many more people need to die before we stop encouraging people to live in such a delusional state while denying them the therapy needed to repair their mental health?
poster

Hundreds of people die every day from transgenderism in our country, most of whom hurt themselves, yet most representatives have no public stance on transgenderism. And to that, we say: No more. We are going to make this the voting issue. We are going to take this to every election, to every state, in every city. We are going to make sure the best people get in our elections to run, not as politicians, but as Americans. Because this — this is not cutting it. When people try to suppress your vote, and there are people who stand against you because you’re too young, we say: No more.

When politicians say that your voice doesn’t matter because the transgender lobby owns them, we say: No more. When politicians send their thoughts and prayers with no action, we say: No more. And to those politicians supported by the transgender lobby, which allows the continued slaughter of our children and our future, I say: Get your resumes ready.

We will not stop until every man, every woman, every child, and every American can live without fear of transgender violence.

Today is the beginning of spring, and tomorrow is the beginning of democracy. Now is the time to come together, not

"Guns don’t kill people. Transgenders kill people"

eyyy complete 180 of the democrats. you're hardly different from them.

"Of course, it’s men who are mass shooters, meaning that taking a gun to his peers was one of the least feminine things this man could do (an FBI study on mass shootings in America could find only 6 perpetrated by women, and even they stretch the limit of what can be called a “mass shooting”)."

usually it is. however, we're (as in actual thinkers, not democrats) not making the case to ban men just because of that, but more-or-less figure out the causes of these shootings. banning transgenderism won't stop shootings.

"We are going to make this the voting issue."

advocating for more government control to own the libs

"Today is the beginning of spring, and tomorrow is the beginning of democracy. Now is the time to come together, not"

we should've done this a long time ago with the friggin oil industry, military industrial complex, and big pharma; not transgenderism. what did the media tell you to believe today?

I am so confused

Wanting a cleaner environment, and accepting failed predictions and blame for ever changing climate, are two separate things. You've got to be an absolute imbecile to think that just because you're not buying claims that mens activity as sole responsibility for changing climate, you'd want to live on filthy planet resembling India or China.
2 ups, 6y
I mean... as long as you’re down with the basic principle of protecting the environment then we can make common cause on that all day long.

The Trump Administration has been eroding environmental protection on lots of things.

Coal is dirty as heck, and its noxious emissions can cause a lot of problems for citizens in the area. It’s estimated that more people around the world have died as a result of coal than have ever died from nuclear power, and it’s not even close.

One way or the other we need to clean up our act.
