A lot of people are pre-committed to “small government” and low tax rates, and the notion that individuals not government solve problems.
They also have it in their minds that fighting climate change will require them to give up basic activities like driving cars and eating meat, when there are tons of other ways to fight climate change which are not as intrusive as banning those things. (A simple carbon tax, for instance.)
So: in a misguided effort to fight this perceived threat to their own lifestyles, they seize upon any little bit of data they can in the hopes of disproving the theory that man made greenhouse gases are the predominating factor contributing to global rises in temperature today.
What they don’t realize is that climate scientists are already aware of all that data — in many cases, it’s data climate scientists *themselves* have produced — and that 97% of scientists studying this issue have concluded these counterpoints do not debunk the basic theory.
They also don’t realize that failing to fight climate change now will result in tremendous costs later. They May be preserving their own lifestyle in the short-term by burying their heads in the sand. But they are only ensuring their children and children’s children, and their children and so on, will have a bleak future. Not to mention the inevitable damage to, and extinction of, other species as they lose their habitats.
Long answer to a short question :) thanks for posting.
