He was good, certainly did great work during the Cuban Missile Crisis, but I don’t think his achievements were as impressive or lasting as FDR. JFK didn’t complete a full term.

But FDR singlehandedly turned the US from a weak military power mired in a depression, to a world-beating superpower capable of fighting (and beating) major empires in both hemispheres simultaneously. America was the only country to emerge from WWII stronger than it started — much stronger.

These achievements really set the stage for American history for decades to come

FDR (and Eisenhower) i blame for the military industrial complex being the only source of america's economic power.

FDR kicked the can down the road and we're *still* paying for it in terms of social programs that population growth has made unaffordable. I accept that this is your opinion, but I disagree.

They were affordable at the time there were enacted. Many, many presidents and Congresses since FDR have missed the opportunity to adjust them.

Okay, I can see that it hasn't been handled well since. I do still think that not enough attention was given to the long term consequences.

This is what I hate about large nationwide government programs though. They often perform well as a 'safety net,' but once the danger is over you're still stuck in the net.

They should work JFK into something with hard wood.

FDR is responsible for many of the programs that we struggle to pay for now. I can't think of a president that deserves to be added.

My concerns about him are related to how much he knew about the effects of General Order 100, which the North used to target civilians. I don't know how much is true. Otherwise, I have no problem with him.
