Just barely.
Like, a smidgen more accurate.
Especially when there are two sides arguing.

If we're judged ourselves using the same standards as them, we'd be 99% fake news..
(I would say 100% but I'm assuming people here occasionally meme using actual text from the individual or event portrayed in the meme at the time the picture was taken)

Why would anonymous memers be held to the same standards as a media outlet like ABC?

In general, we shouldn't.. But if you're going to compare the two as the original meme is, it seems to me we should be playing by the same rules.

Okay, then you'll have to admit that more than 1% of the memes here talk truth. I know AOC memes are jokes but saying 1% is just sour grapes.

Memes by nature are about creating a narrative that may speak to the truth.. but are not necessarily accurate.. Or at least definitely less accurate than I would expect from a news organization.

If CNN put a picture of Trump up captioned with: "i love f**king women who aren't my wife", would it be fake news? (I mean assuming he didn't actually tell a reporter that..)..

True but the best memes succinctly portray truth. It's like 'the left can't meme' thing. Alot of the time there's so much mental gymnastics and text that it becomes an confusing essay.

While likely true, yes, if he never stated it. Journalism has lost alot of credibility since Trump got in. Even with Obama and the hesitation by most of the MSM to criticize him. Ther certainly went after Bush, and fairly, I thought, although 9-11 cut him some slack in the beginning. They certainly are pro war.

"the left can't meme" is kind of a poor example because it's obviously opinion.. Even calling it a biased portrayal of truth seems generous imo. I know it's been repeated here ad nauseum but moving on..

That's my point. A trump meme stating "I love f**king women who aren't my wife" would be a pretty accurate portrayal of truth but it would also be fake news.. (it also wouldn't be very funny as a meme unless the picture had something else going on but I think you get what I mean).

I think part of the problem is Trump bashes the media on a regular basis.. (so they might be more inclined to let negative portrayals of him slip through.. accurate or not.. or bury his positive news.) He also seems to have a problem with calling them fake news while himself perpetuating his own fake news.. and they lose viewers to YouTube or whatever as people lose interest.. so they need more sensational headlines to try and retain ratings. But the sensational stories end up being fake news.. so they lose credibility/viewers long term.. so they need even more sensational news short term.. and ya.. downward spiral.

Fair enough, altho it's hardly disputed that the right's memes are more cutting and effective altho there are exceptions. As far as I see it and I know that sounds biased but it's what I see, imo.

I also think it's fair to say the media attacked, and I mean attacked, Trump first, after kissing his ass for years but that also was for ratings. Of course Trump will hit back. But yeah, I agree with most of your points. Especially about sensational headlines for ratings. Good stuff.

Well.. I'm probably not going to prove you wrong. I barely ever actually submit memes and even if so, I am one guy in a sea of imgflip righties who probably wouldn't think being bashed is funny. therefore "the left can't meme.".. maybe I'm wrong about the majority of people here being on the right.. idk. You're probably all bots. Bots calling us bots.

High? Virtually no one (even in politics) uses actual text quoted from the person in the meme... and for good reason. Most of the time it's not as funny as making something up.
For example I'm pretty sure Larry Fine of the 3 stooges never said the phrase "fake news".

Well then..
fake news bruh. Lol no but I already said this to someone else but memes by nature are not accurate.. (or at least not as accurate as we should expect from the news media..)

The presentation of the facts hardly matter, it could be real clowns doing the news on tv. If it's accurate then who cares lol. Clowns can compete for ratings.

If Mickey Mouse was showing liveleaks compared to a firing range. Than GoPro mickeys got my support. Fake cgi character, real facts

just to be Petty, I'll blame flip for not updating templates hourly. That's right... Hourly

The example I used to someone else-
If CNN put a picture of Trump up captioned with: "i love f**king women who aren't my wife", would it be fake news? (I mean assuming he didn't actually say that to a reporter.)

That is basically a meme (an unfunny example but still... some element of truth.. portraying someone as saying something they didn't actually say)

If CNN did that, they would be taking material from 2016-17 John Oliver and Colbert lol there's a place for it, rephrased for pc tv.

That would be funny to see everyone quoted in the news in meme form. It'd go both ways lol

Ah.. maybe so idk. I quit watching Colbert for the most part a while ago.

That may be our future but sh*t man.. to me it sounds like another step toward Idiocracy.

Here are some news people quoted via meme...
eh..
maybe if the pics or quotes were less accurate it might be funnier.
(Therein lies the problem.)
