An Impeachment is like a Grand Jury. Evidence is gathered. Witnesses are interviewed (but not cross examined by the defense). If the jury decides there's enough evidence to suggest a crime was committed, then the case is referred to prosecution.
So, right now, the House is gathering information. Once the relevant committee's think they've found evidence of a crime, it's referred to a House vote.
If they vote yes, he's impeached. It goes to trial in the Senate.
If they vote no, he has avoided impeachment.
