probably because smart people know they are smart, in a way, and i see how that could make them unconfident if they are talking to someone because they dont want to actually found out they are dumber than the person they are talking to. or get roasted by a wikipedia nerd after saying something thats not 100% accurate. dumb people just have nothing to lose because theyre already dumb and no one probably listens to them anyways

Also, it is much more difficult to disprove a lie than it is to prove a truth. This is why 'fake news' is such an effective disinformation tool.
