I'd much rather have our type of homeless and undocumented arrivals; at least they don't leave dirty needles around and don't poop in the streets. :)

The economic divide is sure wide :(
2 ups, 6y
That's because they have an economy that can have one.
In places with Federally subsidized artificial economies, not wide enough to have a divide.

nice cherry picking.. I worked it san francisco for months. There's a couple neighborhoods that look like that, the rest of the city.. not so much.

If the point is that a tiny number of rich people live in great houses while the rest of the city lives in filth, I got it pretty well while I was there. Funny how some of the greatest income inequality is in the bluest parts of the nation

It does appear that most areas that are in bad shape are run by Democrats.

I didn't even mention, St. Louis, New Orleans, Seatle, Trenton, Newark, Baltimore, D.C., Flint, San Bernardino, Stockton, Riveria Beach, Oakland, and East St. Louis. All run by Democrats for years.

So there you go Skippy.

Welcome to Capitalism, son.

The California you dread/envy is the world's fifth, FIFTH, F-I-F-T-H largest economy.

Without it the rural maggots would still be eating dust like before the New Deal/Socialism opted to throw some Federal (AKA: Coastal) money to those backwater States so that their citizens literally won't starve to death.

Not to pop your bubble, but according to stats gathered at Business Insider, California, Illinois and NY rank highest among States that are losing residents.
https://amp.businessinsider.com/the-top-10-states-people-are-moving-out-of-us-2019-5

So it seems apparent that not every born and bred urbanite shares the snobbish contempt for "rural maggots" or their "backwater States". And not all the name-calling and looking down one's nose is going to change the fact many of us prefer rural and small town life. I have been to big cities, and while they were nice to visit I sure wouldn't trade my home for all the bright lights and so-called culture of any urban metropolis.

I don't do links.

NYC is losing residents? LA? SF? SD? Coulda sworn gentrification is pushing out the locals, however population numbers aren't changing, just demographics.

Sure, rural areas (we got those too, we call it Upstate) have been experiencing a net loss, despite Pataki's attempts to revive the Eerie Canal as a tourist thing or something. Doubt the apple and dairy industries will be too imperiled.

Same for Illinois. Shipping having to get all the way there and back when the difference with the 2nd stage rail and trucking from there and rail and trucking from the Atlantic shore ports is not worth the extra hassle. Manufacturing being shipped overseas thanks to tax incentives and subsidies courtesy of the GOP will continue to aid the decline of that sector as it has Upstate NY, Cali, and dear dead Detroit.

Trump's tax cut for the rich (will you be among those minions whose cut will not expire next year?) screwed Blue States by closing local loopholes. The richer are moving to where they can keep more of their money.

Nothing wrong with the countryside - the nature boy in me wished I lived there when I was a child (in an hour I'll be headed to a sliver of woods nearby to plant muh wildlife friendly plants) - but folks got to keep things in persective. Propaganda about cities - the origin and existence of which ARE as hubs of economic activity, PERIOD - somehow being drains on areas sitting on their asses waiting for darkie to be enslaved again in order to revive their moribund economies - are lies, plain and simple. Jealousy makes them no more valid nor warranted.

Words are just words. if people wish to weaponize mine into sticks and stones slammed upside their heads, that's on them. To me this is just banter, no snowflakes were harmed in the production of my silly rants.

You are an articulate person, something I always admire. But when you go to the most overblown accusations, I just wrong my head, darlin': "Propaganda about cities - the origin and existence of which ARE as hubs of economic activity, PERIOD - somehow being drains on areas sitting on their asses waiting for darkie to be enslaved again in order to revive their moribund economies - are lies, plain and simple. "

That kind of talk is classic Joe Bidenism, and an utterly irrational insinuation. And you are better than this.
2 ups, 6y
I'm an idiot who likes seeing how easy it is to make others to stoop to my level.

The heck with Biden. Dude lied to his dying son, his -isms aren't first popping up on my list. (Although he was pretty fab in the 2012 debate against Capt Shellac Coiff)

That IS what cities are and do. Not like things got crowded at grandpa's corn farm so we had to cram things up some.

Rural engages in agriculture, lumber, mining....
Urban manufactures and trades the finished product.
As well as chalk up a hefty profit in the process which gets concentrated in the city and via large goverment some is filtered to areas less able to afford infrastructure and municiple services due to less wealth and a sparser (and thus more spread out) population.

Basic raison d'etre stuff.

This is what happens when corporations pull of out of urban centers and offshore the jobs for more profit. Greed is to blame. Which party enables/promotes corporate greed? The GOP. Southern cities under Democrat/Republican control in image.

Only seven out of the thirty you listed are Republican, and none those cities come close to the shitholes of L.A., San Fran., Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit, Oakland, Newark, D.C., Baltimore, Compton, etc.

As far a corporate greed. The Democrats get more money from Wall Street than the Republicans and are the ones who want open borders, no tariffs, and a globalized economy. Even the Koch brothers are supporting the Dems.

You'd think Sneedville would be a White Conservative Paradise. but that median income would lead me to believe folks might be on WELFARE! Or worse: FOOD STAMPS! And we all know white republicans are NEVER on welfare or food stamps. BUT- if they are...they DESERVE it.

How you arrived at that I have no idea. Your chart shows 77% of the cities to be Democrat.

As far as Citizens United, it was a terrible SCOTUS decision supported by the Koch brothers.

And which ones on the list are "shitholes?" Democrats have been running those cities for a long time too...
2 ups, 5y
Yea the only ones dissenting on CU were democrat liberal judges... but they are the bad guys. get a grip. look up what a 'partisan hack' is. Then take a hard look at yourself.
