and was a catalyst for the Tunisian revolution and the wider "arab spring".
I do not know the impetus of this man's self immolation, and it is possible it is simply him being "deranged",or "mentally ill".
my problem is that there is no critical examination of the reasons why.just casual dismissals, and sly ridicule.
I am happy, and quite satisfied that for many americans things are okie dokie.
well, good for you and your family scooter.kudos and blessings and all that jazz.i am happy for you..truly.
but that ain't the full picture.
there are many americans living in third world conditions.
abject poverty, opiate addiction fueled by a dark hopelessness.
suicide rates are at a staggering high.
whole communities, literally entire cities, deemed "sacrifice zones".homelessness on the rise,a large portion children.
and while the majority of americans are bedazzled and hypnotized by their digital hallucinations, snug in their own comfort and safety.millions of americans reside in a constant battle for survival.
these are the forgotten, the marginalized and ostracized.they are America's hidden shame.
you won't see them on the MSM.
they aren't covered in the NYT and WAPO.
we aren't allowed to discuss them openly, and if they are discussed.it is either in hushed whispers or to be trotted out to ridicule and chide (and to put the fear of almighty god into those who are a paycheck away from financial ruin).
maybe you are right my friend.
maybe this is just a deranged, mentally ill person.
totally within the realm of possibility.
or maybe it is/was a courageous person who self-immolated to bring attention to America's lost, broken and discarded.
I don't know.
but I DO know that the proper response is not ridicule and shameless dismissal.
