"no one knows the size or shape of the earth"

We've known it since Ancient Greece. This isn't something new.
reply
2 ups, 3w,
1 reply
Who the heck is "we"?
You don't know the size or shape of the earth. I don't think you have verified the ancient Greek mathematics, nor have you verified the bogus mathematics of Copernicus. And anyone who studies science seriously knows that all science is theoretical, which means it mainly relies on consensus for its validity. Almost nothing is "proven", and theories change.

You believe what you believe because it's what you've been told for a long time. But, alas, you have no proof of your own, just ancient rumors and theories about life.
Cheers!

By "we" I mean humans.

And you're partly right and partly wrong. You're right that science is subject to change and almost nothing is proven. You're wrong when you say that science relies on consensus for validity. Science relies on the scientific method, data, testing, evidence and observation for validity. Something isn't accepted as true in science just because a bunch of scientists say so. They need to back up their claims with evidence.

I'm not sure why you think I have to do the research myself to know it's been confirmed. Do you only eat food if you've cooked it yourself or physically stood there and watched someone else cook it? Do you only drive a car if you're the one who assembled it? Do you not take any medications unless you've researched them yourself in a laboratory?

People do research and come to conclusions based on that research. They report their findings to everyone else, and when they do so, they provide their data and evidence. It's not a matter of "believe whatever we say because we're scientists".

Have I done the math myself to measure the Earth? No, but countless people before me already have, and they've come to the same conclusions over and over and over again. Have you done the math that confirms the Earth isn't round?
reply
2 ups, 3w,
1 reply
If you haven't done the math then you only know what you are told, regardless of what conclusions "they" have reached. If you did not reach them yourself, then you do not know. And people drawing the same conclusion is what I already referred to when I used the word "consensus". Consensus is not PROOF.

"Humans" is an abstract concept, and many humans believe different things.
So what "we" aka "humans" know is different for everyone, depending on what they think they know.

So, I am entirely right that you only know what you are told, through a consensus of belief. Would you like for me to explain it again??

this image has enough information to correctly discern the relationship of the earth to the sun and approximate the shape of the earth as far as can be seen. if you understand the mathematics of angles you can get a very good idea, if you don't understand angles you will be at the mercy of "scientists" and their long history of bull$hit.

good luck!!

3 ups, 3w
Infra red wha?
Thought "forever" ends with a dome, or is it a wall of ice that no one has ever seen?

Nice pic of a vehicle you'd claim really can't fly that high, btw.
2 ups, 3w
No, really, why infra red? That makes no sense.
According to what you're saying, a telescope should do, yet to date, it hasn't has it?

Skip the math, take a selfie from Florida with the Pyranees in the background.

I asked where your Nobel Prize and grant money are because if you actually had evidence the Earth wasn't round, that would be the scientific breakthrough of our generation.

Back to my other question. If the Earth is in fact flat, shouldn't we see the sun get smaller as it moves away from us each evening? I'm asking seriously. I want to know what your answer is.
reply
1 up, 3w,
2 replies
why are you so obsessed with the shape of the earth?
do you know what "scientism" is?
it's not that big of a deal. you don't need a nobel prize to understand your world. relax. chill. make a meme. you don't have to agree with me. ever.
2 ups, 3w
I'm not obsessed. I was simply saying that if you actually had a way to demonstrate conclusively that the Earth is not the shape we've concluded it is, you would definitely win a Nobel Prize.

One thing to keep in mind: if (I'm just saying if) the Earth were flat, the movement of the sun and moon would be vastly different than they are now. Just keep that in mind.
1 up, 3w
No. I wouldn't win the nobel prize. that's not what the nobel prize is for. and prizes don't validate science. you understand little about science, math, or the nobel prize. not surprising.

one thing you should keep in mind: you cannot do simple geometry and figure out when you've been fooled. just keep that in mind.

"this image has enough information to correctly discern the relationship of the earth to the sun and approximate the shape of the earth as far as can be seen"

No, that image shows me a certain vantage point and angle. That doesn't mean it's accurate. If you showed me a picture taken upside down, would that image have enough information to discern that we're all upside down and the sun is underneath us?

The key phrase that trips you up is "as far as can be seen". Just because we can see something, that doesn't mean we're seeing it accurately. Ever seen an optical illusion?

Just because the sun and the moon APPEAR to be the same size in the sky doesn't mean they actually ARE the same size. You're reaching incorrect conclusions because you aren't taking into account our limited and flawed perspective.

"Consensus is not PROOF"

You're right, and I said that in my other comment. And you seemed to miss the part where scientists have actual data to back up their conclusions. They aren't just making stuff up. People can investigate their conclusions are verify whether they're right or wrong. You can do it, too. You can prove all these scientists wrong. Have you done that?

LOL! If you don't understand geometry, then the photo and most other explanation will do you no good. You believe what you want, you are doing no harm. Good luck!!
2 ups, 3w
oOOoh, happy happy learning time!
I wanna play.

Explain geometry as it applies to this photo taken juuuuuust below 'the dome.'
And while you're at it, toss in what an infra red camera is supposed to show.

Try not reply to yourself again with a whole lotta nothing.

"I ask again, have you done the research/math that shows all the scientific conclusions on the shape of the Earth are wrong?"

Yes, I have. And you can too. But you don't have too. And I can't explain everything on IMGFLIP. So you take care.

Cheers.

If you've done actual research that shows the Earth isn't round, where's your Nobel Prize? Where's your grant money? Where're your awards for the scientific discovery of the century?

Nah, people know that shit since the days of Zeus. I read about some guy who did an experiment that hasn't been repeated since and was flawed to begin with, but it proved everything once and for all. Google Ancient Greek rumors and become an instant science wizard without even knowing how to do math. LOL!!

I watched the documentary Behind The Curve on Netflix. A guy tried an experiment to show the Earth wasn't a globe. The experiment supported the conclusion that it was, so he just ignored the results. Typical of people who can't accept being wrong.

That's alright. You're not alone. Even people with college diplomas have trouble seeing what is real and what is fake.
From an early age people are taught to accept what they are told without thoroughly examining what they are being told. Taught to accept "authority" without questioning.
There is a good reason for that, but any individual can rise above that with a little clear thinking.
Even just admitting that you're not sure is a step in the right direction for most people.
Cheers.

Haven't done math, I have been in the middle of the sea 200ft up on a calm day and able to compare the horizon to a straight edge that is near perfectly horizontal, there was a curve so i'll go with the "unproven" sphere vs the unproven disc
reply

Based on simple math, certain generally accepted things are impossible. But people need to understand math in order to know what those things are.

It's also perfectly acceptable not to know what those things are.
Cheers.
