FAIR is a hate group. Biased and not fact-based.

FAIR doesn’t “just” research “the facts” about immigration policy. It is a lobbying organization. This is no secret. On its own website, under “Our Objectives,” FAIR said it seeks “to influence public policy directly by lobbying (to the extent permitted by our tax status) and by protecting the citizens' rights in the courts.” Its “mission,” in part, is to “advocate immigration policies that will best serve American environmental, societal, and economic interests today and into the future.”

The bottom line is, FAIR doesn’t peddle facts; it peddles hate. Its lobbying and legal efforts – such as the campaign that led to Arizona’s SB 1070 and Alabama’s HB 56 – are based on fomenting fear, on exploiting racial tensions and economic anxieties to convince people that they had better not let any more “aliens” into their country.

You call FAIR a hate group, and then you use the SPLC a far-left group which itself is identified as racist and sexist. Yeah right.

If you don't like their numbers use these. The point is, Illegal Aliens are a net burden on the U.S. economy.

OK, let us agree that there is no definitive number on what Illegal Aliens cost the economy.

The cost of ICE and CBP alone outweighs the $11 - $13 billion Illegals pay in taxes. Add in the cost to educate their children @ $6k - $12k per year per child, free lunches, and non-reimbursed ER visits,etc.. Now add the costs if one of these children are born here, which adds Medicaid, food stamps, etc. which these children are now eligible for.

All this points out the fact that whatever the number, Illegal Aliens are a net loss to the U.S. taxpayer.

Regardless....all those ICE/BP folks could take a break if we simply went to the employers of the undocumented workers and fined/prosocuted THEM. The owners/employers. Takes WAY less people to do that.

Also- set up easy work visas etc to make it easier and more attractive for folks to do it the "right way"....what we have set up now is an awful and costly and time consuming process.

I read the article you reference. For the most part, they are talking about legal immigrants and I agree with most of what they say. They also point out that illegals only pay about $11.6 billion in taxes, which goes back to my point of net negative.

I agree with you about the need to prosecute the employers of illegal Aliens. That is why I don't understand the aversion by lawmakers to making e-verify mandatory.

I also agree with the need to overhaul the whole immigration system, and here I think both sides of the aisle are equally culpable. As Trump has said many times, Congress needs to do its job.

This still doesn't address the problem of stopping people from illegally crossing the border in the first place. While stopping the employers from hiring them would help a lot, but many illegals work under the table. I don't think it would eliminate the illegal crossings and as you stated it is costly and inefficient.
