He makes a good argument actually.

The only countries that "need" to be diversified are white western countries.

Nobody complains about the lack of Africans and whites in Japan and China. Nobody complains about the lack of Chinese and Japanese in Africa and Central America. The only countries that ever catch flak for diversity are western white countries.

Just out of curiosity, did your racist alarm go off when you saw "white west"?

I agree.

I think however, the complaint of most of these countries is that the immigrants don't meet basic standards, such as education, and are being allowed into the countries without any chance of finding work. They then act as a drain on welfare systems and the government as a whole.

Countries like China and Japan have very strict criteria for admission. Even if you're family has had citizenship for 5 generations in Japan, your countrymen will not consider you to be Japanese. Here in America if you're a citizen, you're an American.

There are Americans of Mexican background in California to Texas whose families have been there since it before the US invaded. To this day they are referred to as Mexicans, not Americans, so shush.

The way Trump was talking about Puerto Rico the other day it's not clear if he is still unaware of the fact that PRs have been United Statesians for 120 years. PRs are the largest ethnicity in Trump's hometown of NYC, not some obscure group he's never heard of.
I can assure you, as one who is half, I'm not considered American either, even by the children of those who once cheered Mussolini back in Italy. "Spic go home" I hear when I was young from them.

You really live in Texas, or even America? You really think you are alone with the "those people need to leave muh 'Merica"? Really?

Racist Californians. I live in a place where people of Mexican decent are the vast majority of the population. We're Americans if you ask us.

My problem is with illegal immigration and our current immigration policies. Personally, I think non criminals that have made it in should be given amnesty if they've been here since Obama was president.

HAA! Doofus claims to be from Texas - TEXAS - the most racist State in the USA and proud of it - and is now calling his loathed hippy dippy lefty Calis, "racist"

Big smooch for you, buddy, you make me laugh.

Amnesty - Republican Presidents' fave word.

Flack from whom, other than themselves?

First off, have you ever heard of colonialism? Europeans made incursions into those countries and regions much to the detriment of the indigeneous populations. Calling for more of what recalls negative memories (plundering, exploitation, raping, wanton slaughter) might not be what those former vassals wish for.

Chinese are IN Africa now, investing far more than the West is. Chinese interests are optimized to be one sided, however, so what infrastructure they build is maximized for extracting and transporting resources out. Chinese workers aren't allowed to fraternize with the locals to the point they bring their own food with them from China and aren't allowed to learn the language. They still prefer to be an insular society even as their reach broadens ever further. China is about business, not interference.

Japan? They're still around?

Central and South America HAS had Chinese and Japanese as long as the US has, MINUS the Asian Exclusion Act, so you might even see more. Cristobal Colon, colonization, Google.
Peru even had an ethnic (Peruvian born) Japanese President, Alberto Fujimori, back in the '90s. You might want to hit the Google switch on that one too.
There are Jewish communities and Welsh speaking communities going back generations all the way down in Argentina.

Now back to that pesky European colonial era thingy. Do you know why Britain has so many people from India, Jamaica, Nigeria and other countries whose coinage once featured British Monarchs? Go ahead, smart guy, take a guess.
France, with all those dandy folks from Le Algerie or Le Moroc, excuse me, Algeria and Morrocco?
German ties with the Ottoman Empire brought in Turks.
Russia's own current states brings in what ARE its own citizens, only more Asiatic. Sucks, I know. This is what happens when you stick your dick in someone else's pudding, buttercup.

In addition to allowing what basically were citizens of those former empires, there are other reasons, and not quite as altruistic as you think. See, there is no Mexico on the European southern border. The solution? Hungry-ish strong young men from, you guessed it, the now restive former provinces of now dead empires. So an influx of Moslems is not necessarily as altruistic as you rather pretend it to be.

The desire to replicate the US miracle is a MAJOR factor in importing foreigners, as that is STILL how our economy innovates and grows. Stop that, we become ossified, then die.

Europeans in Africa actually built infrastructure and did try to make a positive impact (some of them) China is just going to milk what it can and skedaddle.
4 ups, 6y,

That "positive impact" is a matter of persepctive. In the case of China their dealings are short term economic, as opposed to long term colonial.
Infrastructure need to get diamonds from the interior of Mozambique to the shore is different from that needed to adminster a goverment.
British divide and conquer tactics deliberately created hostility between Hindus and Muslims in India, necessating the creation of Pakistan and leading it to be an exporter of terrorism.

Artificial countries hewned by the West has left conflict zones between ethnicities in Africa and the Middle East, utilizing the most brutal of tactics learned from their formal overlords (the hacking off of limbs in African countries was a gift from Belgium. Rape, torture, slaughter of entire communities, displacement - European introductions to the fine at of 'civilized' war.).

Using Middle Easterners as proxies against The Ottoman Empire then Germany and later the USSR took the obscure Wahhabism and made it into a worldwide movement. Islamic terrorism prior to colonialism, WWII, and post colonialism? ZERO. Today, we have no one to thank but ourselves for what we created to weaponize the people against our enemies.

Kinda like Al- Qaeda, I guess.

It's funny to think that in India they ( or some ) respect Hitler and the Japanese for trying to help Bose obtain independence from British rule and blame Churchill for the death of millions

Yeah, thank you Ronald Reagan. Created as a proxy army against the Soviet invasion of Afganistan, once the Russians cut out, we left them hanging, thinking they'll just go away. A $1.5 billlion (or was it $3.5?) investment doesn't simply just disappear.

There were an incredible number of Indian famines - 10s of millions dead - courtesy of the Brits. Also courtesy of them was the Persian Famine of 1917-19, 17 million - half the country - starved to death while Britain carted its own grown food away. Just like the Irish famine - not allowed to eat their own livestock nor so much as the salmon swimming their rivers. People starved to death with food right out the window.

Yes, no export ban, like had happened about 60 years earlier in Ireland. the Irish were starving while living on an island and producing twice as much food, flax and wool to clothe and feed twice it's population. No wonder there was such tension between the Brits and Irish, even without anything else in their history happening.

Makes me kind of think of the banana. Just one strain out there and if a blight happens, it's over.

I was told about the salmon thing like 2 years ago on St Patty's. Started talking to a woman walking her dog - both dressed for the day - and she told me. I was floored.
Amazing how soft the UK has gone in a generation or two.

There actually is a blight affecting them, got small farmers on Caribbean islands in a panic, as well as the industry worried about the long term.
Olives are getting wiped by the acre out by a blight in Italy.
Scary stuff.

I knew about the feed animals going to Britain and taking precedence over crops for the locals but never knew it was so Draconian. They really sucked everything out of Ireland including mass quantities of rent by English land barons. It's like that saying, tough times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, weak men create tough times. Hell, the British army used to be called 'bloodybacks' for the lashings they'd endure.

Damn, that sucks. I've heard that the old widely used strain of bananas use to taste like the artificial banana flavor that you taste in banana flavored candies of today.

King Leopold of Belgium basically had the Congo as his own private property, was responsible for the death of maybe as much as 10 million - half the country.
Cecil Rhodes, of Rhodes Scholar fame, also killed millions (in southern Africa), though an approximation seems harder to assertain.

With Wahhabism I meant more in terms of the Cold War.
To counter the spread of Socialism or also Nasser's dream of a pan-Arab Republic, nationalism and religious fundamentalism was promoted by the West, funding movements like Wahhabism (Ye olde "The Commies are gonna take your religion away, so go fundamentalist").
Nationalism was earlier used by the West to stir people up against Ottoman rule, and also later by the Nazis to help fight the USSR on that front. The book, "A Mosque in Munich" (which I bought but haven't read, packed with a ton of other new stuff for when I (never) finally move) is a recommended read on what began with the Nazis then was adopted by the US & UK during the the Cold War.

Bits and pieces I've heard or read over the years.

The book was from a Daedalus Books catalog.
I used to read the NYTimes quite a bit, more the soft stories about history and culture than topical stuff.
Sometimes something catches my eye on Pinterest. Look at that, and a bunch of related ones pop up. Some is lunatic fringe (Afrocentric revisionism rivals white supremancy for utterly hilarious wackiness), some horribly depressing.

The Leopold & Rhodes I found out that way, just last year in fact.
The Persian and Indian famines came up accidentally up while Googling other stuff a couple of years ago.

Kurt is the coolest, an underrated talent. Escape From New York is one of my top faves of all time.

Ugh, they've been talking about rebooting it, the list of possibles (including the uber annoying Shane actor from TWD) is pukable. Although Timothy Olyphant, who didn't wanna, can be Kurt-ish in demeanor.
2 ups, 6y
I agree, KR is wicked cool, love love goldy too (Wildcats lol)

If they reboot it Olympiant would be good, he was great in deadwood, heard they are making a movie? McShane and the whole cast were stellar. I knew on of the prostitutes on show, Leah Cevolli (has imdb page) But they must give KR a cameo at the very least

My moms fav movie is overboard
My Fav western of all time is "Tombstone" Best Cast ever in a western.
KR best Wyatt Earp ever.
I was partial to Val's "Doc Holliday" being from Philly and all (was a dentist) and he got all the great lines but They were all perfect for the parts.

Many ppl do not know that walt Disney last words were "Kurt Russel" nobody knows why, maybe he was thinking of a lead for new movie? he was just a kid tho.

also many ppl do not know that KR was the voice of Elvis in forrest gump.

Deadwood started to bug me after the millionth time McShane said "f**k" by the 2nd episode. And I curse a lot. Seems I should have stuck with the show tho.
Old Western harlots rule.

Dottie Ray & the Harlots would be a great name for a band.
I'm excessively tired to the point of feeling almost stoned minus the high, so never mind me.

Ever see the HBO Depression era show Carnivale? Dumbasses killed it in 2 seasons, could have at least wrapped it up, since it was this Apocalypse duel happening. There was the awesome chunk of a blonde on it, dayum.

My first exposure (that I recall) with Olyphant was The Girl Next Door. He stole that movie.

Val's "I got two guns, one for each if you" was bonafide, haha
Yeah, great movie, but my fave Western is High Plains Drifter.
Another fave is The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean. Paul Neuman was the snazz.

You saw Russel in Elvis! ?
John Carpenter rescued/revived his career with that tv movie. Only saw it once (years after it aired), but it was great. Kurt BECAME Elvis.
I had read it was the best biopic of him too.

"Carnival" was awesome

I think I saw Kurt in everything he did, he is one of the all time best.

What's the white west? America, where the indigenous population was wiped out by white invaders? Or Argentina, ditto. Or possibly that continent with a long history of white genetics, Australia..... or even New Zealand or even South Africa...

So basically you are saying Europe should stay white and all the place they conquered and colonised over the last 500 years as well. Sounds just like the Muslims demanding the return of Al Andalusia

What or where the f**k is Andaluisa?
2 ups, 6y
Probably Spain.
1 up, 6y
It's a region in Spain

Who conquered Andalusia? Stability in Muslim Spain came with the establishment of the Andalusian Umayyad dynasty, which lasted from 756 to 1031. The credit goes to Amir Abd al-Rahman, who founded the Emirate of Cordoba, and was able to get the various different Muslim groups who had conquered Spain to pull together in ruling it.
