Uhhh, when a hate crime is found to be a hoax, does it get expunged from your hate crime database?
Oh! Also, do attacks on Trump supporters, like that 81 yo that got punched out for wearing a MAGA hat, count too?
A punch is typically not extreme enough to be classified as a hate crime. I don't know enough about this incident however. Hate crimes have seen a sharp rise within the last 3 years, that is a fact.
Hmm. I wonder about that. What part is the 'crime?' The hate itself, or the behavior that follows? Legally, I'm sure the latter is the 'crime,' but what then distinguishes a hate crime from generic assault or graffiti? I'm speaking theoretically, of course. I hope I die before it becomes possible to regulate each other's thoughts.
It is hard to classify something as a hate crime, it has to be pretty obvious if it classified as such. The legal details are quite complicated, but I believe it has to be very clear that something is a hate crime for it to be defined as one. Stuff in the gray zone are seldom classified to that legal definition.
