Average woman studies salary is 53k. Average salary for a high school graduate is 35k. That means a woman's studies degree is better than no degree at all, which makes it not useless.

You're comparing a college degree to a high school degree, apples and oranges. Compare Women's Studies to Petroleum Engineering, or computer science, or chemistry.

Besides, most positions available for a women's studies degree is teaching women's studies. There can't be many of those and what happens when, like Hungry, they stop teaching this subject.

Yeah. It isnt exactly the best decision, but it isnt "useless." Why do you care if somebody wants to study what interests them? And there are some jobs available. I'm not going to study womans studies, but it isnt a stupid or useless choice per se. People dont just pick jobs because they get more money.

Because first of all that study is a load of porpoise hork, and second, all the time and resources spent into such a useless degree is a waste. It is downright predatory to be tricking young women into thinking they need to go to college, much more so for a bad degree like this, only to load them up with student loans and not even get a well-paying job related to their degree. If they can find a job at all.

You're right, but average person with a degree in women's studies doesn't get a job in that field... because there is little to no field there... teaching perhaps. Many are working in non-related lines of work, and maybe not counted. I could be wrong but I don't think they survey other fields to , by chance, find someone with that degree and count that as this meme implies.

Obviously their degree is doing something, because they get better jobs than somebody with a high school degree. Just because you get a degree doesnt mean you are in that field. Womans studies can apply many places. I dont think woman are "oppressed" today, but the degree can still help.
Jobs they get:https://www.pdx.edu/careers/what-can-i-do-degree-womens-studies
My issue is people painting them all as failures, when they are doing better than all the GED Trump voters.

I have an office full of your "GED Trump voters". Average pay is between 70 and 100 k. That's because they make good choices and work hard for their pay. Generalizations go both ways. Seems you're not immune to that fallacy yourself.

Trump voters do actually have a higher average income than Hillary voters, but less educated. That really goes against what I have heard. That doesnt change that you make less without a college degree and that a womans studies degree isnt useless. You make about double the money you would with a college degree than without. I am just suprised that Trump voters are of higher income. MSM definitely portrays them as poorer. I guess his voters were a mix of less educated poor rural white voters and less educated richer white suburban voters. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/education-not-income-predicted-who-would-vote-for-trump/https://latimesblogs.latimes.com/money_co/2011/08/college-gradutates-pay.html

You don't have far to look to understand this. According to Fortune Magazine, 30% of billionaires do not have a college degree.

Most small business owners and many entrepreneurs either never went to college or left out of boredom.

Having a college degree, but not having a good job doesn't help either and there are a lot of kids that fit this category.

Yeah, but you cant argue that a college degree ON AVERAGE gives better pay. Most high paying jobs lawyer, doctor, accountant ect. require a college degree. I know a contractor, an immigrant for Greece who never graduated from 6th grade who lives in a super nice neighborhood, but in general the most guaranteed and easiest way to get richer is to get a college degree.
If you had kids at the end of high school, would you recommend them going to college, considering that it on average gives you better pay?

I would if they were going for a degree in a stem field or something that was meaningful. If they wanted to major in a liberal arts degree program I'm so sure.
0 ups, 5y
Philosophy and literature are very "meaningful", and liberal art degrees would still make more on average than high school grads. It really doesnt matter what people do with their lives, I respect anybody successful.

Then they should stop complaining about how they can't get a good job and that we should forgive their student debt. They decided to take on the debt and they decided what to major in.
1 up, 5y
True, complaining overall is pretty useless. Free college would just devalue college unless it gets harder. https://latimesblogs.latimes.com/money_co/2011/08/college-gradutates-pay.html
On average college grads make 75% more than only hs grads. So it isnt useless.

I know two women who majored in women's studies, and now use their degrees to teach it. Makes me wonder what will happen once the teaching positions are all filled?

True, but I bet there are more good paying jobs for engineers than for women's studies.
