Pilot, a Roman judge, tried, judged, and sentenced Jesus to death for fomenting rebellion against Roman rule.
Don't know what Gospel you read, but no trial by jury in the Roman Empire and certainly not one where a Roman oppressor would do the bidding of potentially rebellious subjugated vassals.
Jesus bar Abba was not a murderer, he was on trial for sedition.
But wait, there's more! The seditious Jesus bar Abba that was released may have actually been THE Christed Jesus of lore (Messiahs do what? Lead rebellions against occupying oppressors AKA sedition!) Yes, Yahweh interceded and saved him(self) from getting tortured further and murdered by heathen Gentiles after all.
But never mind, even if that was the original story, good luck finding accounts of it.
Makes you wonder though, doesn't it?
Mob rule is LESS likely to grant "specialized rights" to minority interests. That's one major reason why we have our Constitution, system goverment, the Electoral College, Congress & Senate, judiciary... to give a voice to the otherwise drowned-out-by-the-crowd marginalized. Hence our Constitutional Republic.
