In vietnam the US military with a superior military was defeated by guerrilla fighters. Regarding the nukes it wouldn't be good for a country to drop a nuke on it's own land.

Fair points made, though I doubt the citizens of the United States fighting against a government would be as skilled at guerilla warfare as Vietnamese fighters were. For a start, the US is far less tropical than Vietnam.
