It wouldn't be so cold if it wasn't so warm!

It's called 'Climate Change' now. Too many idiots think 'global warming' means it should be getting hotter everywhere. Hence we have idiot senators throwing snowballs on the Senate floor.

Because that is precisely what "global warming" means. If that's not what's happening, then the idiots are the ones who called it that in the first place.

That's like a bakery selling ice cream. If they sell ice cream, then they're not strictly a "bakery" anymore, are they? They're a "dessert shop".

Yeah, I suck at analogies.

Here is an analogy. Consider you are in a tanning bed getting a suntan. When someone throws a cup of ice cubes on your back. Then closes the tanning bed with you inside so you can't move but the ice cubes on your back begin to melt and drift to other areas. The places they were dry up and new places are now colder. Eventually, all the ice will melt but you will still be cooking. So while certain places are colder you are warming up. Hence the word 'Global Warming.' The ice cubes can represent the ice caps, rising sea levels, hurricanes, snowstorms, etc.

Nah that's not a great analogy either, especially since in your analogy, the ice cubes are foreign objects.

All that stuff would have happened anyways, whether you want to call it global warming or climate change, since we're on the tail end of the last ice age. (We're still IN an ice age, that's why we still have glaciers.)

The real question is how much did humans affect the /rate/ at which it's happening?

About 97% of scientists it is because of us. Every summer has been the hottest summer for about 7 years. Hurricanes are getting stronger. The water level is rising. While at the same time water is becoming too poisonous for most sea life. Forest fires are getting deadlier due to heat. Trump was handled a report about it. He said, "it's fine. It's fine." And that he didn't believe the report. So enjoy our final 12 years. https://www.politifact.com/virginia/statements/2016/apr/04/don-beyer/don-beyer-says-97-percent-scientists-believe-human/

Well you typed all that for nothing, since I never said humans weren't affecting anything.

You just said 'All that stuff would have happened anyway' which isn't true. To answer your other question. https://www.globalchange.gov/climate-change/whats-happening-why
1 up, 6y
Yes, everything you mentioned would happen naturally given enough time. Even water becoming too poisonous for sea life would eventually happen naturally, through the release of excessive hydrogen sulfide from underwater volcanos and supervolcanos.

Although that is indeed one area where humanity is making it happen /a lot/ sooner than it would normally.

I like how you use logic and reasoning.

I'm sorry, what was it again that Obama did to "correct" the "problem" in his 8 years? How about the Europeans, tell me of their progress and how they are making inroads.

Solandra that people like to jeer?
Tax credits for going solar?
Tax credits for buying electric cars?
Research into alterntive fuels?
The coal industry complained about what that Trump promised to rectify again?

and these accomplished what exactly??? Yes they were programs, but what did they change? What MEASURABLE impact did they have?

Nothing, since anthropogenic Global Warming/Clinate Change is a farce.

Any steps to conserve and use alternate energy and reduce pollution IS, however, a good thing. How could it not be?

Agreed to a point, however the problem becomes government administration. The Virginia fishing license program was a great example. For years I bought a freshwater license and felt good that all funds were going towards Chesapeake Bay watershed cleanup and great progress was made. I left the state for 10 years and come back to find all the money is being usurped by other department budgets. Throw in some Al Gore carbon credits which he had positioned himself favorably in, and I turn skeptic when politicians say they have answers.

Well that sucks. But your intention was fishing, so...?
I don't hunt, but I buy Duck Stamps (not tons, I'm not exactly rich) because 98% of that money goes to buying wetlands. Best charity on Earth, I tell people.

Al Gore is a charlatan and a con man and he needs to shut up and go away.

I'm pretty sure most everyone agrees on clean a healthy environment. I'm not convinced though, that we aren't just going through normal global weather patterns. I'm skeptical enough about weather reports a week out, let alone 20 years from now. In the 60s it was widely stated we wouldn't be able to even venture out in the rain in a few years, due to the acid.

Bear in mind, many of the measures Obama wanted to take were blocked by that do-nothing-Congress for six years also, so there wasn't much that could be done....

Solid burn. The Trumpkins will never be in agreement though because it takes more than 2 brain cells to form a cohesive thought and they don’t have them. That and they can’t form logical thoughts because they’re inbred.

lol You fail at knowing anything about who you are talking about. You can take pride however, at being a really good ass kisser. Have the balls to come at who you disagree with directly like my "2 brain-celled" self did.

I don't mean to sound unappreciative of any praise, but I personally wouldn't describe reallyitsjohn that way. Not everyone on this site who leans conservative or supports Trump is like that. Hard to believe anyone who likes Trump isn't, but how often do you see reallyitsjohn in the politics stream with the chorus of screaming mimis?

Fact is what steps anyone - from goverment to the individual level - has taken to remedy what they claim to be a problem is token, minimal at most, just waiting for someone else to do it. Personally I do not recognize climate change as a manmade phenomenom, but I actually do far more that would counteract it than everyone I've encountered who believes in it does combined. It's a lot of talk from people who think talk and Facebook posts alone qualifies as action.
1 up, 6y
That would be nice.
0 ups, 6y
The question needs to be asked and answered......what if.....gobal climate trends are a natural, irreversible phenomena. Shouldn't govts and politicians work on managing these likely outcomes instead of determining that man can resolve this ?
